View Full Version : Playing with a limiter?

I'll keep this short and sweet.

I play bass in a band where I quite often use a lot of heavy slapping and popping mixed with bog-standard fingerstyle playing. Occasionally the slapping is a little... lets say... hefty.

Would any of you recommend the use of a limiter to combat this?

A compressor may be more suitable.
Many bass amps have compressors/limiters built into them anyways, but really these are more so just there to prevent damage to your speaker due to underpowering.

But regardless, I think if you find yourself running out of headroom due to your agressing playing dynamics then you're better off investing in an amp with more headroom instead.
Or upgrading your entire rig. Maybe look into biamping.

I wouldn't use a compressor or a limiter with slap, good slap has dynamics, you can't really acheive dynamics with a compressor or a limiter.
But bi amping is a good idea.
