Is anyone into this? Around a month and a half ago I really got into it, and i'm hooked. I used to dread working out but now I look forward to it everyday. It's not only getting me in much better shape, but helping me a lot mentally too.
To start things off, does anyone know of a good weightlifting forum that have helpful members?

Nice to see some responses. Thanks for that link by the way.
I do upper body Monday, Wendesday, and Friday. Lower body Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday (or Sunday depending on how I feel). I'm mainly focusing on high weight lower reps, and focusing on getting bigger.

If you want to get bigger, it'd be more effective doing high weights/low reps for a few weeks and then switching to low weights/high reps and then alternating between them. That way you are creating hypertophy in both your white and red muscle cells

Because of my schedule, I workout late at night, like around midnight or 1 am. It's nice because there's hardly anyone there. I was wondering what you guys think of my workout schedule, though. I do chest on Friday, back/biceps Saturday, rest Sunday, shoulders/triceps Monday, cardio Tuesday, Legs Wednesday, cardio Thursday.
I was thinking of doing shoulders/triceps on Sunday, but is that too much to do in a three day period?

Yea I would stay with that routine, its almost identical to mine. Do get that tone look you have to eliminate the body fat, and build muscle. And to build muscle you do high weight/low reps. Alot of my friends keep telling me to do high reps/low weight to get tone, but thats just a common misconception.

I notice there isn't a nutrition thread, so maybe we could talk about that here, since it's about as important as weight training. I am trying to figure out more ways to eat healthy, but I'm kind of a noob when it comes to good fats vs. bad fats, carbohydrates, and all that.
So, what are you guys eating? :D

Thats the only thing I am dissapointed with myself about. I get too tempted by food. Like I hardly ever eat fast food or any kind of sweets, but I still eat alot of like potato chips, and crackers, and goldfish and stuff like that. But I suppose its not too bad.
I would suggest you go to the library and borrow the book Body For Life its a really good book as far as nutrition goes along with weight training.

Cool, I'll check it out. I'm having fish (perch) tonight for the first time in awhile. I'm not a huge fan of fish, so if it doesn't make me puke it'll be a fricken miracle. :D
I'm pretty happy with myself as far as eating right goes. This probably sounds so stupid, but it's kind of a mental thing. Like, for example, there's a Burger King on the way home from work, and I've been so tempted to stop there many times, but I just realised I was hungry. It wasn't for Burger King per se, just food. So I just started cooking my own meals more often.

There is SO much to nutrition, but I would reccommend checking out stuff by John Berardi. He's a nutrition expert that definitely knows what he's talking about.

I've got a pretty balanced diet plan and I have a free friday once every week where I eat burritos and drink ginger beer.
I've got a personal trainer to run through all the nutritional stuff so I pretty much just have to eat what's put infront of me and do the exercise.

I love weightlifting, I work out with weights 3 times a week. I HATE doing cardio though, I really have to push myself to do HIIT as often as I should. I skipped it Sunday and I already regret it, but I never feel like doing it.

I hate weightlifting... :-|
In all seriousness though, I find there are few things I enjoy more! It is a great form of stress relief and it just generally makes me feel really good about myself. Suprisingly enough, the diet is definetly the hardest part of weightlifting. For me, eating really healthy is harder then pushing out five reps. of my max. I've found that the best method to keeping on track is to use logic. Why do you need Burger King? Like slack said, all you want is food.
i dont eat fast foods or crap or drink pop :)

Or just avoid it all together- the worst thing is when I come home and there is all this delicious, fatty food in the fridge :(

I did the same thing as you, like I stopped drinking soda all together and only drank like juice boxes and cranberry juice and stuff like that. And now I just drink my protein shakes before and after I work out, and water or milk when I am no working out.

Man, i'm having a lot of progression even though I haven't worked out long :D
Man, i'm having a lot of progression even though I haven't worked out long :D
Yeah. The first - 3rd month is fast at progressing but I got to the point where I justed stopped improving. If this happens you are doing something wrong. ie not trying hard enough or trying too hard. work out a routine that fits you and try stick to it.
I've gotten heaps of people to start working out. I recomend it to all. Improves the body and mind.

If you do the same routines over and over, your body will adapt and you will plateau. It's best to incorporate new exercises every once in awhile, to keep your body guessing.

yea and it also makes working out fun because you can get burnt out from doing the same exercises every workout

What do you guys do for abs? I've been doing ok with my workout, but I'm curious what everyone else does.

just regular sit ups from time to time, and not that many. maybe 50 total. i forget the name of the machine i do them in :)
lowering your body fat % will probably be more useful for seeing abs than doing thousands of crunches
Yeah, as slack said, if you've got a low body fat %, use the ab machine, situps, or a really good one is the excercise ball. This way you aren't using your hips, you are noly using your abs. Sit your back on the ball, stomach facing up. But get the ball as close as you can to your bottom without falling off, then while keeping your back straight, do a normal situp/crunchp. You'll have to do about 3x20 reps of these to be effective, but they are good.
