Quick question:

Can I use a regular casio keyboard, that has midi sockets, in the same way as I would use a midi controller keyboard-for vsts and stuff?

Whats the difference?

Cheers

Yes, you can. Provided your computer's MIDI I/O is set up correctly.

That's why MIDI was developed: to have a standard to allow hardware to talk to each other witout special efforts to get them to understand one another.

The key difference between the keyboard and the controller is that the keyboard has some form of oscillator or synthesizer built into it, to generate sound in response to MIDI messages. The controller just generates and reads MIDI messages.
