You don't need a better mic, per se, but more or less a windscreen/pop filter.
What that is, is a membrane of sorts that allows more sonically pleasing sound to get through to the mic, while holding harsh sounds back.
You can easily make one by stretching pantyhose or dryer softening sheets between sides of a coat hanger bent into a circular shape.
Alternatively or additionally, you could apply a compressor to make the more agressive sounds a bit quieter, and also make your voice sound a bit more sustained.

a compressor would only make the hissing worse! is the hissing coming from the recording or you headphones/ speakers?
use a noise gate to cut out any noise that isn't your voice/ guitar or whatever it is that you're recording. Then use a dither to take out the hissing at high levels.
what is the setup you're using exacly? what kind of mic, preamps and recording hardware are you using???

he's talking about "Essing" rather than hissing in that context

its called sibilance i beleive, hiss filters may help, a gate will work if you can target the right freq, but there are specific plugins to remove it. cant remember the names, but theres some good freeware about.

Thank you all, I'm going to try each thing ya'll said to me individual and see how things work.
and cadencethefire,. I would say the hissing comes more out of the speakers..because when the volumes low you cant hear the hissing, but when i turn it up, that's when you can hear it. For some reason not all my songs have that and I don't know why but im glad. Anyways I'm sort of new at this recording stuff so I'm not sure about what setup I'm using. I'm not doing this professionally. I only use a 10 dollar mic (lol) at the moment, but with Cool Edit Pro 2.1 you couldn't even tell. Thanks, alot.

Spitfish by digitalfishphones is a pretty good one. Also, any moderate bandwith, high frequency EQ can help the problem if you know what you're doing.
