View Full Version : My band just got raped in the butt opening for Kamelot!

Basiclly what happened is that I Left college this weekend and drove 3 hours back to open because my band was opening for national recording artists Kamleot and Epica on their North American tour. We worked really hard to get invited to open for National Recording Artists, and played at this crappy venue so many times and got screwed over playing last and all that crap. I practiced with my band for endless hours this weeked to get ready for this. And they advertised the concert all in the papers and in the window of the venue and aslo on the phone that the concert would start at 8pm. we all get get there like 6:30 and were still waiting for our other guitar player who lived kinda farther away from the venue and got stuck in traffic. We had all our equipment set up on stage because there were 3 local bands before Kamelot and Epia and they put us first (We even were the first local band booked for the show and the other bands werent even metal at all they were some crappy emo scremo band, so why the hell should we play first?)
It was like 6:45 and they randomly changed their minds and said that the show was gonna start at 7:15 ( when they never informed us or ANYONE about this change, and I even called the venue earlier in the day and they still said that it was gonna start at 8) and they told us if our other guitar player wasnt there by 7pm sharp they were gonna kick us off the bill, and sure enough he barely makes it in at 7:10 and had they had just said we couldnt play less then 5 min before that. They were just huge dicks to us and they ALWAYS screw us us over and this was like the biggest show we were ever gonna play there and there were like 500 people outside waiting to get in and even after they kicked us off the bill they didnt even open the doors and start to let people in till like 8pm anyways!! WHAT THE HELL! We had everything set up, my drummers huge kit and all our amps and we finally had the whole band there and could easily have just still done the show!
And then I had to franticly call all the 50 friends of mine who were just coming to see us to tell them were not playing and not to pay to get in.
So basically one of the most important events so far in my musical career was screwed over by assholes, and all my friends and family went out of their way to be there tonight to see us and it was all ruined.
GAHH!!!!!!

It's common dude. Sometimes it's better to start a show later when there's a bigger crowd. The longer a line is in front of a venue, the more change there is that passes by will decide to watch the concert.
Your guitarist should have lead footed it.
When dealing with that level of music, punctuality is everything.

Turning up at 7:10 when the show was supposed to start at 8 isn't exactly TERRIBLE, especially if you're the opening act, especially if you live really far away.
I'd have said you could play without him, and when he turned up it was only a bonus. lol

Ha! Sorry but that's pretty hilarious, you had the chance to open for the amazing Kamelot, and it sounds like you couldn't be bothered to get there at least a couple of hours before you are supposed to even begin setting up, just to be safe
Unlucky

Not tryin' to be a dick or anything, but never bitch about your time slots. Ever. No matter how messed up it is to be playing first (and trust me, my old band did that, a lot), just be appreciative you were on the bill. It's messed up that "crappy screamo bands" were put on a pedastal before you guys, but those bands also would probably bring in a bigger crowd, from the venue's standpoint. I mean, it sucks, but it happens.
What really blows is the situation with your guitarist being late...hell even with opening y'all could still have played your hearts out.

Sucks man.
My band had a show with Darkest Hour and Soilwork on Oct. 8th, as we were told on the phone, the woman sent us tickets, and it turns out we're playing with Dead To Fall and One Dead, Three Wounded on Oct. 1st instead, so, I know how it goes man.

Seriously, dude, that sucks. I would have showed up at noon and just hung around the place to make sure something like that doesn't happen.
What's your band called again?

There's a good chance my band could open for Napalm Death this November or January 07. If what happened to your band happened to us, I'd probably blow up the world.

What venue was it? I've seen national bands get dicked on time when they were in the 1st slot... Doors open as they start palying so no one is even inside yet, no sound check so the mix is terrible and they only get 30 mins even tho they have 10 albums :(
On the other hand, my band got to open for Overkill (2nd slot) and Bobby Blitz actually was headbanging on the side of the stage when we played Victim of Changes (Priest cover) and he gave us props on stage...

Well as far as the guitar player knew, he WAS gonna make it before the showtime, but as the threadstarter said, they decided to push the starting time forward 45 minutes.

My band is called Aegean and were a melodic death/power metal band from Rochester NY, We play music in the style of Children of Bodom, Wintersun, Dream Theater, and Blind Guardian just to name a few influences. The place that the concert was at is probbablly one of the worst venues in our city as far as its condition and the people who run it. For the past 30 years its been around its been full of lies and greed. The place is going out of buisness soon because they cant pay their bills, they cant afford good advertising and they book all these national acts but cant even afford to have tickets sold on websites such as Ticketmaster and ect...

don't get me wrong, I love dead to fall, but darkest hour is just one of my favorites, and I used to be a diehard soilwork fan, so I was really psyched.
a couple of years ago, me and gothenburg metal went hand in hand if you don't remember.
