View Full Version : Magma Thread
I have recently gotten into Magma in a big way. There sound is uniquely awesome.
Are there any other bands out there with a similar approch to rock?
Also I only have Udu Wudu what other Magma albums should I get?
Uniquely awesome how?
French jazz fusion/symphonic rock. And all their songs are sung in a fictional language: Kobaïan.
They also include the use of instruments like the theramin to produce fantastic almost alien music.
pretty unique. :smoke:
Might check em out later.

Assuming you're talking about the zeuhl band, that's pretty weird. I've never heard anyone on here really talk about them. I had Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh on my old computer, but the vocals really put me off to the point where I could barely listen to it. I don't really no much about them, but that was supposed to be one of their best albums so I don't know.
Edit: I'm streaming a couple of their songs from progarchives right now and they are better than I remember. Any chance you could upload that album?

I found Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh on the blog I downloaded it from a while ago, so I'm going to give it another shot and see if I have any different reaction.
If you compress the album into a zip. or .rar folder you can use a site like yousendit.com or megaupload.com to upload that file and just email the link out. That would be awesome.

That's great man, thanks.
On a side not you don't want to post the link here, because it's not allowed on the forums to post links to uploaded copyrighted material. So if you would be so kind could you email it to me at lunch998@yahoo.com? Or my AIM is lunch998.
What other music are you into? I might be able to upload something for you in return.

I wish I could make up my own language and get away with starting my own subgenre of prog.

It's still tough for me to dig the vocals, based on the first few tracks on the album I sent out. They are so intense and over-the-top. It's already pushing it to sing in a made up language, but if the minimized the vocals and focused more on instrumental passages I would enjoy it a lot more.

Udu Wudu is much more instumental by the sounds of things (I still havent been able to upload/download yet). Track 3 - Tröller Tanz (Ghost Dance) is freakin' awesome.

I really like this band. Mëkanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh is probably one of my favourite albums at the moment.

Wow, I had no idea anyone here likes Magma. Christian Vander is an incredible drummer. Magma is just so bizarre, but in an awesome way, although some of their stuff borders on the line of being so bizarre and annoying that it is hard to listen to.

Yea exactly, some of it is just too over-the-top, but some moments they have are really incredible.
The over the top theatrics is one of th most entertaining things about the band. Sheer brilliance.

i am interested in hearing this band.....from what i read about them they seem pretty crazy (in an awesome way)
Ok, ok I know I have been slack. I know I have been lazy (not replying to all the emails asking me to upload Magma albums) but this is the 411 on my situ...
I HAVE THEM ALL!!!
I have spent the last couple of months tracking down and finding every single one of Magma's albums (except for the latest one - sung in English...ewww those guys really don't know how to write real lyrics after sining in Kobaïan for so long - terrible).
So if anyone is interested in hearing a musical experience like no other drop us a line with your email and I will gladly show you into this beautiful world.
All I ask for in return is a trade...any album/artist you think would be right up my alley (whatever you think my alley may be). You don't even need to have have the album or artist uploaded (though I would prefer it) I am just addicted to finding more new music.
PS: It may take a day or two for me to get back to you as I have a pretty busy work schedule at the moment. Please be patient it will be well worth the wait!

What an incredible band. MDK is definitely one of my top 10 albums.
I got into them through a band Magma fans might want to check for: Ruins.
Yoshida Tatsuya named them as a major influence. And you can definitely hear that. Even more so in one of his other bands, Koenjihyakkei. Also really good music, and he's one hell of a drummer. Check it out if you haven't heard:
