View Full Version : The Pop Group
I love the Pop Group. Everything from their heavy funk rythms through to their wild guitar riffs and emotionally charged lyrics. They are one of the finest bands I have ever heard. Their album Y is fantastic from start to finish not a dull moment - 10 brilliant tracks.
Who else likes the Pop Group and why don't more people know about this glorious musical force?
How can a band thats SO good live in such obscurity?
If they're so obscure, post links, or perhaps learn to make threads.

They have no PV or Myspace as far as I can tell, this was the best I could find.

Yeah of course they have no PV or Myspace - the band only existed from 1978-1981. The members of the group went on to form other bands including Pigbag, Maximum Joy, Head and Rip Rig & Panic.

For anyone who is too dumb to get this link to work, take out the part you get when you click it that says "%20%20" in the url.

Irony.
They are probably in my top 15 favorite bands of all time.

I would call alot of what the Pop Group do Pop - as far as punk/no-wave goes.
I'd classify some Melt Banana as Pop (despite there noise/grind influence) too now that you mention it. I dont think musical genres are as set in stone as made out to be.
But i guess if your defining Blink 182 as pop-punk - the Pop group are completely different. But still pop mixed punk mixed funk mixed avant garde!

They're about as pop as avant-funk post-punk gets, I suppose.
Whatever, they rule. We Are All Prostitutes is my favorite.

I remember reading about their influence on the Minutemen, which is why I checked them out inthe first place. It was a good choice. And from what I read Mike Watt has generally awesome taste in music. Which i expected of course

Exactly!
