I went to college today to jam with a mate, a girl walk over and says "would you like to do battle of the bands. Me and my mate say yeah, as long as you can find us a drummer, bass player and vocalist, all of which she and we found by the end of the day. The gig is in a month and we are not rehersed.
Could you give suggestions on easy but good songs to play, we are aloud to play 2 at the gig. thanks

have everyone make a list of songs they know how to play, if any of them match up, play those, or consider those first. If not... make a list of songs you WANT to play and see which ones sound the best when you play them

Who's the audience? The judges go a lot off how the audience react to the band and obviously you're going to get a better reaction if you play songs they like. Just the general public or...?
If it's something like that I'd go for some really well known radio hit or a classic rock song, but it depends who you've got to work with.

The problem with her finding musicians is that they might not be into the stuff you'd be wanting to play. But it could work. Sit down with everyone and get to know their exeriences and what styles they're into. Ask for some suggestions, and even if it's only "er, well it's okay I guess", write it down.

Really take the singer into consideration when choosing the song because they're going to be your front man for most of it, and the vocals are the part that most people relate to. If the song doesn't suit their range or abilities, it can make you all sound meh.

It's good to have some easier songs, even if you're above that standard. For one, it'll take a lot less time to pick up as a band, and another, if anyone gets nervous, they'll have less chance of stuffing up. It also allows you to work with the crowd a bit more instead of staring at your fingers to make sure you hit the right frets.

Btw, time-wise, try to be able to pick up the songs within the next, say... 2 weeks, then work on stage presence with those two pieces for the rest of the time. Or something similar to that. It could take less than that to learn it if you all put effort into learning the parts at home.
