I am currently in my final year of Highschool.. and will be sitting my exams in about two months. After some appauling results from the practice exams i ahve decided that its time to start cramming in the studying.
One MAJOR distraction I have is my drumkit.... so In order to concentrate on my studies.. I have decided to pack it away for storage until ater my exams are finished......
Of course this would leave me rusty and nearly suicidal from a lack of drumming... so I decided to just set up a smaller practice rig just to kinda make sure i can still call myself a drummer....
You can see my Solid aluminium drumsticks... Extremely heavy so I can start building up some more articulate and faster chops....
Heres a pic..

Ok you know. I'm not going to insult you, or call you names. This is honest and real advice.
Throw out those "sticks". Now. Like right now. When you read this, you shouldn't be, you should be moving to throw those things away as fast as you can.
I can't be any more serious. Get rid of them now.
You WILL destroy your wrists. You WILL. There is no maybe, there is no perhaps. You WILL if you use those.
Take them. Throw them away.
If you want to improve your chops with heavier sticks, purchase some marching sticks. VicFirth makes many excellent types. I'd recommend the Ralph H. or MSII models.
Ditch the metal sticks. Don't ever use anything like that. Ever.
The ONLY way you build chops, is by dedication and hardwork. You can not "weight train" to get chops.
Chops in drumming come from control, simple as that. You must learn control and relaxation.
Purchase Stick Control, a metronome and have at it.

Ian, I've got the same kind of thing in my room. Mine's not for studying reasons though. More of a "family is always home" reason.

 and New Breed open on the keyboard. I need to buy myself a proper music stand. I need to take new pics of my room. I've got my 2 guitars and amp up there now, too. It's a great practice corner.

Not on a pad, definitely.
Playing live, you get a lot of power from using the arms in conjuction with all the other muslces in your hands + wrists.

no. lifting weights will not make you faster but you can gain dexterity from it.
Dexterity:
"Dexterity is a term referring primarily to the ability of a person to "gracefully" coordinate their movements. It specifically refers to adroitness in using the hands. In this context, dexterity is a motor skill. The term can also refer to intelligence and "mental dexterity". "
Lifting weights won't get you that.

Using heavy sticks to build chops is a bad idea, period, whether they be wood or some disgusting piece of metal. It can build up the wrong muscles in your arms, and leave them bulky. My old teacher used to play with heavy sticks to build up chops, and he told me it was a bad idea, as his ability to play certain runs up to speed (in a pipe band, where there are quick phrases that need to be controlled and clean) was hindered.

^ I guess that depends what you refer to by "heavy"
I wouldn't recommend anything larger then a marching stick.
However practicing with marching sticks on a pad is one of the best ways to build chops.
