What are some of your techniques to avoiding/preventing blisters while playing? I used both athletic tape and fingerless gloves (cut them) and I still get mean blisters when I'm done practicing or playing long gigs...
I mean I know I'm getting them more more frequently now because I went on a break from playing everyday, and my endurance is to hell now, so the skin on my hands got soft but I just wanted to get some others takes on it...
Cheers :chug: ,

I use good technique to avoid blisters. I don't think it's listed anywhere on Musicians Friend, though.

Like Tillmon said, you need to develop proper technique to avoid getting blisters. I've only gotten one blister from playing the drumset, and that was in the first 2 weeks of getting my set. Many times I have played 8-10 hours in one day and no blisters formed, so don't blame it on 'endurance'.

How do you manage that? I get them whenever I play for about 4 hours+ a day :S

I get them when I don't play for a while.
I can play for a couple of hours a day, day after day, and not get them. But when I stop playing for maybe 5 days or so, and start playing again, I get them.

There's a thread in the begginer section on this.... now if only people would look around before they post.
But the tape and gloves makes it funny enough that it's ok!! haha
Ditch the tape and gloves man. You just gotta play, and your hands will get used to the movement. Get a good instructor to teach you some technique.

Blisters form callouses. Callouses dont blister. Therefore in the long run, blisters = good.

Where the hell did u hear blisters form callouses? I have never had a blister form a callous.
I usto get bad blisters on my index finger. I think it was all technique. When I raised my snair, seat, hats and everything up, the blisters stopped. I usto play with my set very low. I tried playing with better technique, straight back and such.

Straight backs in the long run are proven by doctors everywhere to reduce blisters.
Seriously though, just get someone to show you proper gripping technique. In the 4 years ive had playing, the only time i got blisters was when i got some crappy zildijan sig sticks with rubber handles

...funny story about Slayer, Dave Lombardo threw a bottle at my truck when I saw them this summer. My truck happened to be parked in a giant parking lot, and the busses were parked on the street beside. So I'm talking to Mark Morton of Lamb of God, and Dave walks by and I was like "Whoa, you're the drummer from Slayer, Dave Lombardo." and he was all "No, No I'm not." then he got on ones of the busses. So when he comes back out, he walks past me, an empty alcohol bottle in hand, and as he passes the general area where my truck (at this time the only vehicle in the parking lot.) he whips the bottle at it. It missed, but...what a douche.

Experience.
And it makes perfect sense seeing as the new skin that grows over wounds is thicker then the skin that was already there

what an arsehole
I hate hearing stories like that. If people aren't going to respect their fans, or at least have the courtesy of being polite, then they really shouldn't work in the entertainment industry. If you don't have the people skills for it just get a job in computer technology,...seriously.
