I want something to use in place of my hi hats and my snare. I was playing today and was enjoying using my hardware to keep time, but mainly instead of my snare. Which would be better for this?

Tambourine for pulse

Cowbell for timekeeping / backbeat

Use something like a tambourine or a splash to accent things like snare hits and what not or even to take place of the snare. But if you want something to keep time on and basically take the place of a hi hat, you're looking at a cowbell.

I'd say cowbell, but that's just because I love ride bell / cowbell grooves....

you will get more sounds out of a cowbell than anything else IMO

how bout a groove wedge, thos are pretty cool, actually the ones with the jingles are jingle wedges, they attach to the snare drum, and you use them when cross-sticking

I would get the tambourine with a head that drummerdave was talking about, those sound pretty cool.

Man I need some new gear.

I'm a big fan of the sambago bells.

Agogo bells are sweet.

Cowbells (and variation) are the most useful. I prefer Mambo bells myself, lil more musical to me.

Though mine are really from cuba so haha i love em.

Is it possible to mount a tambourine to my snare rim?

Drummer300btx

^^ they make small splash cymbal mounts that attach off of the snare drum so im sure you could rig up one for a tambourine.

Chad Smith is a renowned and famous drummer.
Thus his opinion would matter, right?
Chad Smith looks identical to Will Ferrell.
Thus Chad Smith = Will Ferrell, right?
And Will Ferrell is all about More Cowbell.

Thus Chad Smith is all about more cowbell.

Thus you are all about more cowbell.

Get the cowbell

Cowbell. They sound much cooler in syncopated patterns. I'd reccomend the new Horacio Hernandez ones, I have one and it sounds GREAT. Tambourines are cool, but only really have limited uses and can sound kinda cheesy if used incorrectly.

I disagree. A snare is the most versatile percussive instrument (except for maybe timpanis)

well, the "anything else" part is misleading, because that implies there is more then one other option, and since there's only one other option, I assumed you were branching off from the limitations of this poll and going out into the whole realm of percussion.

Mounted Tambourine
Hanheld Tambourine.
Some other related Tambourines.

Id go for a tambourine.... I have a cowbell and tbh I rarely use it so its not even on my kit.
