View Full Version : In Ear Headphones for Drumming.
Hello,
yeah i was just wondering if any of you fellows knew any good pairs of In Ear Headphones, which have isolating capabilities so that they can also protect my precious ears.
I know Shure have the In Ear Monitor headphones, however im just browsing around before i invest in a pair.
So basically are there any other In Ear Headphones any of you recommend and how is the isolation with those headphones?

There's no real reason to go for anything other than Shure for in-ears; the pretty much own the market for them.

the shures are excellent, but i don't have that kind of cash myself, so i just took my ipod ear buds, and i put them in, then i put the vic firth isolation headphones(the ones w/o the cord) on over them, and that works fine for me.

I just plug normal ear buds into the stereo and throw on my big blue iso's and it work perfect!
Kinda irritates after a while though!

They're just the most popular.
It's like saying Pearl make the best drums hands down because they have the biggest share of the market and all of the begginers know the name.
Creative Zen Aurvana.
If you're thinking about the Shure e2c, then forget it. The Aurvana's are basically the same price as e2c, but they have a sound marginally better than Shure e3c's. They're also lighter than the Shure's, more comfortable, and they have a normal wire instead of the over ear crap. It has a better bass response, and excellent crystal clear highs. The e2c kind of muddles both.
The noise reduction is fairly good, but you have to make sure you've got the right seal. It's about like wearing a pair of normal ear plugs. It's enough to keep out most of it, but you can still hear someone speaking to you.
hmm..is the isolation of the shures, great enough to block out most of the sound of the drums?
I already have normal headphones and a pair of ear muffs which works perfectly. However i cant really use that whilst gigging, and my ears are startin to reep the benefits of gettin pounded by loud monitors aswell as loud drums..:(

Check Etymotics. My friend has a pair and I tried them out once. They are basically plastic/rubber earplug fittings with drivers. They block out the same amount of noise as earplugs and have really, REALLY amazing sound quality.

is this just for jamming by yourself or is it for using a met at jam sessions/ shows?
any noise canceling headphones will do if you're just practicing with music, hell, when our drummer records we use these senhieser noise cancelling headphones and that does the trick just fine.

Noise Cancelling is COMPLETELLY different from Isolation.
TS wants to isolate his ears from outside noise so he can hear..
We are talkign about isolation ear phones here..
Shure is perhaps the most used. THere are other brands that have great products as wellt hat have been mentioned.

I tried a few pairs of different in ear headphones and they have all broken...I think I had them up too loud to try and drown out the drums, but today I got a pair of those beyerdynamic DT100s or something (cant remember and im not in the house) Can't wait to try em out, they sounded great when I used them in a studio once.
edit: they aren't in ear though so this post was of no relevance! lol oops
