I just got back from The Mars Volta/RHCP concert...and the Chili's played two really great songs that I had never heard before, and I need help finding them. The first one has really fast verse's that are lead by one of the sickest basslines I've ever heard, with a much slower chorus, and goes back into the fast verse. And I don't know if it was just live but at the end there was a bass/guitar solo. Anthony said he felt very 80's after playing that song.
And the second one, Flea leads the song again but he's playing a part that sounds like it should be played on an acoustic guitar, it's basically chords on a bass and its a slower ballad.
And to give this thread a purpose...anyone who's been to the Chili's/Volta shows, how was it? It was the first concert where I wanted to see the opening band as much as the headliners. TMV played Tegrammation, Roulette Dares, The Widow, and a few other tracks off their newest album that I don't recall the name of. They were really great, I'd have to say the highlight was The Widow because everyone was singing along, and when Omar busted out the shredding solo...it was great. I was only disapointed that they didn't play L'Via L'Viaquez...had they played that song I would have needed a new pair of pants.
And RHCP were also great, they did alot of jamming in between there songs which was awesome. They were all energetic and Frusciante was amazing, replacing alot of the solos with improvised ones.

I know a few people who went to the Calgary show and actually went to the hotel RHCP stayed at and waited for their tour bus.. I wish that was me but I'm seeing them tomorrow in Edmonton. I don't really know which songs you're talking about.

Sounds like "Dont Forget Me"

What?
Oh, and did they play Under the Bridge? They don't seem to in other shows.. I think the 1st song you mentioned might've been Right On Time? or Nobody Weird Like Me?

I'm almost certain the second one you mentioned was Don't Forget Me.
The first could've been Right On Time or Around the World... but if he said it made him feel 80's, it could've been one of their covers. Maybe Black Cross or Havana Affair.

Alright...
I need to know.
Does Mars Volta suck live or not?
Threadstarter, did he sound incredibly tone deaf like alot of other people say?
I want to know if I should someday waste my money to go see them... So, do they have their good shows and bad shows, or do they just always suck?

Youtube used to have all kinds of live videos, and most of them were good.
Too bad they deleted them all.

I thought they were amazing! Cedric wasn't as crazy as I hoped but they had so much equipment on stage he didn't have too much room to move around in. And alot of the time the vocals couldn't be heard to clearly but from what I heard he was great, when they played the Widow he could be heard clearly and it was excellent me and my friends sang along with ever line. Omar played great too, and the only time I had a problem was for about 4 seconds during a song the flute and cedrics voice combined and made a terrible feedbacking sound, but they can't be blamed for that.
And the slow one is Don't Forget Me, and I think that Right On Time was the fast one, although it doesn't sound as fast on youtube as it was live haha
I've come to the conclusion that Right On Time is not the song.
And no..they didn't play under the bridge.

RHCP were great live. Too bad I missed about 10 minutes of Mars Volta because of the line ups.

I'm going to see them tomorrow and I have two questions, are another band playing before TMV? And how long do each of the two (or three ???) bands play?
Thanks.
P.S. That sucks no Under the Bridge but whatever.

Sounds like you're referring to "Me & My Friends" (the one song of theirs from the 80s they've been playing on this tour) and "Don't Forget Me."
I saw them on August 22nd. Great show.

As far as I know, the only supporting act is TMV. At least they were the only ones at the show I went to. They, unfortunately played for about an hour (they sounded terrible).
