so I went to the Chili Peppers concert in vancouver last night, and i happened to run into Flea outside the 4 seasons. much to my surprise he completely ignored me and my 2 friends. i thought maybe the band were more arrogant than i though, but a bunch of my friends met Chad Smith in Pacific Centre shopping mall before the show and said he was the nicest guy ever. they talked to him for like 10 minutes and got pictures with him. makes me kinda mad that i ran into flea who didnt seem to give a **** that we were fans instead of Chad who seems to embrace his fans. anyways, anyone got any stories of meeting a rock star, and if so, how did they act?

Flea had a video game character named after him.

I know (acquaintances) the guys in Protest the Hero, but they're hardly rockstars. Weird guys, but the coolest, nicest guys on earth.

I met Weird Al. Also a really nice guy, though once again, not a "rockstar".

Oh I guess I should say who I've met.

I've met the guys from Alexisonfire also, a few times, mostly a few years back. I met Skye Sweetnam, a really bad Avril Lavigne knock off. K-Os, though not "rock", is a dude I've talked to a bunch of times downtown. I dont really bother "rock stars", because honestly, I dont have much to say to them.

Haha it was complete luck that I met AOF actually.. my buddy and I were just chillen out by the side of one of the stages at warped, and out of nowhere George came over to a bunch of us there and started talking, it was cool.. Later after the set I was reaching for a drumstick, but couldnt grab it.. then when i look up, Dallas is right there and hands me his pick.

Well I haven't met any one famous yet but my best friend from college is having drum lessons with the drummer from Sikth. I thought that was pretty ****ing cool since they're his favourite band. It'd be like me popping over to Alexi Laiho's house for a jam.

Well, let's see...I've met the Gathering, Unexpect, and Green Carnation, as well as a slue of other bands that I helped set up for SXSW. I met Opeth and SYL at a meet+greet for SOTU. Chatted with Mikael Stanne from Dark Tranquillity as well as Anders Jivarp for quite a while after their awesome show here in Chicago...very cool guys! Met and had a drum lesson with Gavin Harrison from Porcupine Tree, who is a really awesome guy and an amazing musician. I've also attended drum clinics and, while there, met:

Steve Gadd
Kenny Aronoff
Greg Bissonnette
Stanton Moore
Virgil Donati.

As far as internet corespondences go, I've spoken with Sander and Joost from After Forever on several ocassions via e-mail and the group's messageboard (revealing my fanboyism here, but the band members actually post fairly frequently there and engage in alot of the discussions). I also sent Javier Garagarza(drums) from Elfonia a message to which he replied at length as well as e-mailed Davy Mickers from Stream of Passion. Oh, I also sent Arjen Lucassen an e-mail, to which he replied in a surprising amount of detail! Very awesome guy...would love to meet him in person, if it weren't for the whole "living in another country" thing. :upset:

I've met Gavin from Dredg, The Early November, Thrice, Waking Ashland, A couple guys from Zebrahead, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting. I go to small shows so none of these are really rockstars per se, but I meet a lot of the bands I like because it's smaller and more intimate.

09-15-2006, 11:38 PM
I've met Salman Ahmad of Junoon quite a few times. I'll be visiting his house soon. This is a man that's sold 25 million albums, and did a gig at the UN general assembly.

I've also met (briefly) Kirk Hammet.

Yeah that was really cool how they actually went and talked to people. That was probably cause of how few people there were.

As for me, I met 4 of the 5 Opeth members and got my Blackwater Park cd booklet signed, and I met 3 of the 4 Strapping Young Lad members and got my ticket signed (both at SOTU 2005).

I would've liked to meet Chuck Schuldiner and especially Dimebag Darrell. Actually, Vinnie Paul's doing a bunch of signings in some Canadian cities next month, but he's not doing any here, although I really hope he will. Pantera's been such a huge part of my life for the last third (5 and a half years) of it and have had so much impact and influence on it (inspired to me to start playing music, first band I ever saw live, etc.) and I'd really like to meet Vinnie.

still better than Flea. i told him he was the raddest bass player out there, he kinda turned his head and that was it, then i asked for a picture, he said no so i went to ask him again as he was getting on the bus and a ****ing car that was driving by hit me in the shoulder with its mirror. even after that he wouldnt give me the time of day. he turned around and said "your nuts dude" or something like that and left. looking back id probably do the same thing though if i had idiots like me doing that type of thing for the past 20 years.

I met Chimaria at the Download Festival in 2005. They are truely the nicest people ever.

Yup.

Taylor was really modest when I told him I liked the show and his drumming. Jerry Cantrell was also pretty cool, he complimented my AIC shirt. And I told Kim Thayil that I was in a band and he told me to make sure I liked my bandmates (which I do) otherwise tours would suck.

I met the guitar player from Gwar, and the bass player (who was a riot). I met Dragonforce. They were awesome dudes. I met Behemoth. It was at a signing and instead of a poster that they give you for free to get signed I brought a copy of Demigod and Nergal looked down at it and said, "This guy bought something!" and they all seemed in awe. I lol'ed. I met In Flames and they were easily the nicest band I've ever met. I met Trivium. Travis and Matt weren't very talkative but at least said thank you, but Corey and Paulo were awesome and said a few kind words.

I think that's it.

I didn't actually go meet any of the guys from GWAR, but it was pretty sweet when they headed to merch tables at Sounds of the Underground this year. Everybody started chanting "Beefcake, Beefcake, Beefcake!" as he headed to the table and right when he was almost there some girl was all like "Can I touch one of your spikes?!!!" She reached out to touch one of the spikes on his arm and he pulled it back, then she went for one of the ones on his helmet and he pulled his head back and then just went to the table. And he did all of this without saying a word, he just stared at her with no expression on his face  It was actually quite funny, it was one of those "you had to be there" moments.

Yeah, that guy annoys the crap out of me. Large part of why I rarely go to toolband.com anymore...

I've met...

Jerry Only and Dez from The Misfits, both very cool people.

Chris from Fourwaykill, my Dad used to work with him and they met up when we saw Judas Priest + The Scorpions, he was very high/drunk but really cool.

Dave + Vadim from Dragonforce when I was buying my ticket in the box office, Dave even used to post on here which I asked him about.

Most of the people here probably won't know these bands, but I met all of Seregon at a local gig, and my band opened for Cachexic and Sekhmet back in August, both bands were really friendly and helpful which made the gig more relaxing for us (it was our debut)

Blair from toolband.com..Heh, not that he's a rockstar or anything though. Most people won't even know who that is unless they frequent the site.

How'd you do this?

I've talked to Adam Jones of Tool on the webz0rz. 'Twas less of an encounter than I'd hope for though...Heh

Hmm...I've met the guys from Vanilla Fudge. I've also met Gob, they seemed nice. I've met a few emo bands...The Black Maria, Social Code, and some other band that was too crappy to remember but all the emo kids simply adored. I've played shows with them but never stuck around long enough to watch their set. Both Social Code and The Black Maria acted like they were all that, it was quite sad. And I dunno if you've heard of either of these bands, but Tin Foil Pheonix and The Waking Eyes I've met on multiple occasions. There Winnipeg Bands, but they got quite a following in some Canadian cities.

And I saw Burton Cummings of The Guess Who at Long and McQuade (music store) once! That was probably my favorite, but I didn't have the guts to talk to him. He probably wouldn't want that kind of attention anyway.

i met Sam Totman from DragonForce in the street near the venue where i was going to see them, he was wandering round really hung-over looking for an off-license, which was fairly funny. he was pretty cool and down-to-earth.

I met the drummer from my favourite band, Powderfinger. :smoke:

It was at a Bernard Fanning concert. I tapped him on the shoulder and meekly asked if I could shake his hand. Then after the show I took his empty bottle of Boags (beer) and have it now sitting delighfully on my bedroom shelf :chug:
