I'm very excited about the running of the Cern LHC. Hopefully, we'll see some interesting things come of the power.

Haha sounds sweet.
Now, we just wait for someone to steal the Anti-Matter that is created, hide it under the Vatican and wait for a hero to lead us through his adventure on his trip to get to the Anti-Matter before everything goes *boom*.

I read over the article and I'm excited. But running it for 20 years? Come on, man. I don't want to die before there are results.

haha chance of destroying the planet
that kills me
but on a serious note, i hope it leads to some substantital discovery.
god only knows how much that biatch cost.

For sure this thing cost alot, so the results will hopefully be worth it. If nothing else, we'll have something better than an A-Bomb lol. Just point and aim at the Middle East and *boom* they appear beside Jupiter..<_< >_>

Don't worry we have Tom Hanks to save the day when that happens.
This looks interesting though.

The machine is supposed to run for 20 years, the first results are expected within a year.

very interesting...
this is the first step towards time travel, (you need 2 singularities for that) and eventually the use of a singularity as a power source.

Yeah, but they'd be far enough away. So..It's all good.

Precisely orchestrated time travel is implausible (lending plausibility to actual time travel). It'd be like a random, "Where will we end up" deal.

* They estimate the possibility of accidentally destroying the planet as extremely low.
* The risk is calculated at about 10 to the minus 40 - a 1 in 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 ,000 chance.

actually yes, you are correct. precision is most likely impossible ~ but thats not gonna stop them from tryin.

Technically, wouldn't moving x amount of lightyears away from the Earth count as time travelling, as far as time is concerned on our planet?

Precision time travel impossible! What! That's mad talk!
Haven't you people seen back to the future, you just need a few fancy buttons, a DeLorean and a Doc Brown and Marty McFly.

no
not if we move at 0.1c and it takes us 10x years
although relativity would stilll cause problems

We could all cease to exist within a year. How comforting.
This is really neat though. I hope some good results come out of it.
