For those not in the know, Tommy Lee's supergroup thing chose their new singer Wednesday night and have already churned out two tracks.

Two new tracks from Supernova, featuring brand new lead singer Lukas Rossi, have been posted online via the band's myspace page.

Since early July, Supernova [Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, Star****ers guitarist Gilby Clarke and ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted] have been searching for a lead singer through the reality tv franchise Rock Star, broadcast by CBS in the US. On Wednesday night, the band finally decided upon Torontonian Lukas Rossi, whose previous credits include touring with The Tea Party and I Mother Earth.

'It's All Love,' a symphonic rock track and 'Be Yourself & 5 Other Clichés,' a glammed-up power-pop stomper are the first tracks officially released by the band. Both are presumed to appear on Supernova's Epic Records debut, produced by Butch Walker [ex-Marvelous 3] and penned for released November 21.

Lukas' Livin' on a Prayer was what won it for him I think. It pwned everyone else.

This is pathetic. It's Rock-Idol.

The songs they release would be exactly the same regardless of who won.

None of the covers that the prospective vocalists did were that bad. I thought a few of them were quite good, TBH.

But the group's stuff is absolutely AWFUL.

That
I thought it was a pretty bad performance. The reason the covers were so important on this show (apart from the fact it was a tv show) is because the singers would essentially be singing pre-written songs. I thought Lukas showed the most invention as goes making songs his own without sounding completely wrong for the band, but that cover was horrible. OK, it's a pretty one-dimensional song and even Jon Bon Jovi admitted BJ fans hated it when he stripped it down, but he should have known better. Nothing compares to Dilana's 'Psycho Killer' cover, though. It was ****ing nightmarish.

I don't like the first track, but the second one is really catchy. I hope they don't do too many slow tracks, Lukas is really bad at them.

Corporate and predictable...no shockers there. I guess it's not terrible for what it is, but not anything I'd have any interest in listening to again.

I was going for Toby for the sole reason that he was an Aussie. Though he did a whack-cool job of Karma Police.

I didn't mind Lucas winning though, his original 'Headspin' is quite cool.

A band created like this is going to have around 0.01% control of their music, their image, and their business in general. Outside producers, and corporate marketting people are going to be the people behind this band, which is a shame, because this line up could have produced something interesting.

Dave de Sylvia
09-16-2006, 10:37 AM
Why? This music sounds exactly the same as what Tommy, Gilby and Butch have been producing for 20 years.

Sellout? Because musicians are required to have a high "moral" code, and cannot have fun with little reality show side projects right?

i see this band either turnign prog or punk after the first cd

I see them splitting up after one CD, because, correct me if I'm wrong, these musicians are notorious for being unable to work with other artists.

Dave de Sylvia
09-16-2006, 06:14 PM
No, they're all more well known for being able to work with a lot of people. I do think they'll only do one album (two at most), but that's because Tommy's got a new Motley Crue album on the way and Jason is still working with Voivod (and shamelessly promoting them every week on the show), while Gilby seems to prefer being a solo artist and producer these days.

Cocaine
09-16-2006, 06:15 PM
I thought Jason was done with Voivod? He wasn't on their last album, I thought.

I dont really know too much about the artists (as you can see), so I could be wrong (again).

Dave de Sylvia
09-16-2006, 06:19 PM
He only joined them for their last album, I think. He's known as Jasonic in the band, so you might have got confused. I dunno what's happening with Voivod now that Piggy is dead though.

The new Motley Crue CD isn't scheduled until next summer. They started work on it in May but they're touring and working around the Rock Star thing so.

I like this show, the singers on Rockstar could kill AI's singers any day of the week.

My favorite was Storm, she was an awesome singer (and damn hot too). Iceland Man (Magni) was probably my next favorite. Dilana was good as well, but I never liked Lukas that much (or the Aussie guy, for that matter).

As for Supernova and their music, I could care less. I just enjoyed a summer of rock music on TV.

He is use to it by now I would imagine.

My favorite by far was Ryan, I thought the rest of them were awful for various reasons. I don't like the girls cause I didn't think they would fit well in the band. Magni had horrible taste in music and was annoying. Lukas had something wrong with his throat but when he wouldn't sing all raspy he was awesome (see: Creep) and I thought Toby was just generic.

encmetalhead
09-17-2006, 06:39 PM
toby - generic
Lukus - slow songs killed him but was awesome
magni - too clean cut and sane
Ryan - he was good and should had gotten to last 3
diana - should have been gone after she dissed her "friends" and attacked Magni

Toby had the best voice IMO and was the most "fun" of the singers.

Dave de Sylvia
