I'm pretty sure there's no Gojira thread on here, so I thought I'd make one.

Gojira is a metal band hailing from France.

I've heard them classified as thrash but I don't really see that much thrash in them.

Their sound is hard to describe, it's sort of like Meshuggah mixed with Mastodon.

All I know is they have an epic, heavy crushing sound, and it's awesome.

An excellent example of their unique sound is the song "Flying Whales".

I have the album "From Mars To Sirius", and I tell you it's the most unique metal album of 2005.

I advise you to check them out, if you like metal.

Sounds decent, Im not a huge Mastodon fan, but I love Meshuggah. Do Gojira also play in unusual time signatures? Any other songs youd recommend aside from Flying Whales?

The first song for From Mars to Sirius, Ocean Planet should give you a nice feel for Gojira. Saw these guys live with Textures a few months back and became an instant fan. The drumming is awesome.

Err, their time signatures are more straight forward. But they have some unusual riffs.

okay i was gonna make a gojira thread but i found this one so yeah.

so i saw them in concert with amon amarth, cob, and some other gay band not worth mentioning. gojira blew everybody else away in terms of performance and accuracy. plus they didn't sound like **** like bodom did. i mean, my buddy and i were pointing out all the **** ups by alexi, it was horrible. but nonetheless, gojira kicked my ***.

great band!

Gojira are awesome, their lyrics are sooo good so is the music, I like the theme of the last album. I think their first 2 were kind of weak but the new one seriously kicks ***.

There pretty good, the live show was what convined me to start listening. Don't know about a myspace but there might be an active link to one of their albums on the DU, so if you don't have DU I could forward it.

Edit: You have DU so I'll leave it at that.

...How do Gojira sound like Meshuggah?

They also use weird time signatures, especially in the drumming. For the rest. they aren't as heavy as most Meshuggah and their french (but we can't hold that against them legaly).

i'm rather partial to Terra Incognita myself. i'll put "in the forest" on repeat all the time.

They're touring with LOG, Machine Head and someone else....and they're coming to my area in March..

I despise LOG, but I don't mind Machine Head, and if this band is like what you guys have said, maybe I'll buy a ticket and go with some friends...

I've seen them live, most of their songs sounded the same and were super repetitive. And they didnt sound like Mastodon at all.

I've heard on the record they sound way different though.

The vocals remind me of Mastodon a lot of the time.

I saw Gojira on a chance when they played Newport a little while back and was incredibly happy that I did! I've yet to pick up any CD's yet but live I was really impressed.

Yeh, I'm not a Trivium fan by any stretch, though I do enjoy the Machine Head vocals....
