My mom just moved into her new apartment and asked me to pick out a computer for her. I'm going to be using it too. She wants a computer/printer/scanner/copier for under 700 bucks or so. Any suggestions as to what I might buy? It'd be nice if I could order it in person instead of online cause she wants it kinda fast. Thanks for any help.

at the pricerange ebay will have to be your freind.
I don't know about 700 bucks in america but that won't even buy a half decent base unit over here. Get as much ram and processor speed as you can from that.
You'll have to stick with a standard crt monitor, a tft or lcd monitor will cost you a big chunk of your budget whereas you can pick up a crt monitor for like 30 bucks i bet.
But I don;'t knwo american prices well.
get her a cheap laser printer, and make sure she actually needs a scanner and printer first. Most people don't actually need them because they don't do their own photocopying.

yeah she actually needs a copier/scanner. we use it enough at my dad's house to need one. yeah 700 bucks doesn't get that much, but it'll get something better than my computer atm.
as for the rest of you, i'll probably end up going to best buy, but from what i've heard, computers are hella more overpriced there, so I'll look into acer brand computers. I wish I had the time to custom order it, but she wants one like this week.

don't get acer.
why not?
EDIT:I was looking at this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16883103004
and it doesn't seem too bad. I think my mom can wait the extra few days for shipping it, and it would leave me enough money to buy a printer/copier/scanner all-in-one.

all the acers i have used have been horrible at best. (by horrible i mean they crashed and just generally sucked) plus you can probably get a similar dell for that price. it's hard to go wrong with dell...
