dude, that singer sounded terrible. the band didnt sound bad, as a matter of fact, you sounded alright, but that singer, man was he bad. out of key, his singing was flat out horrible.

Ha, I remember you making a thread to decide on the name for the band.
Anyways, you should all try to play without constantly looking at the fretboard. And your singer is absolutely awful. His "singing" was pretty painful to listen to, and this comes from a kid with a horrible ear for intonation.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaha, oh my god, hasn't found his voice? Im sorry, I bet you guys are really talented but did he mean to sound like someone trying to sing with a sore throat?

P.S- Common misconseption singers don't nessaceraly sing to a key or can be flat or sharp in rock or any other genre close to it.

Pretty rough environment requires pretty rough music- not AC/DC. Then again everybody knows them.

1.) kick the singer out. seriously. he won't "find his voice".

2.) stop playing ACDC covers if you want to be taken seriously. bar bands who never went anywhere in their careers are the ones who resort to ACDC covers.

[2] Keep at it. You've heard all the awful 'first gig' stories, and if yours went well that's sweet.

[3] Same as 2, practice makes perfect.

[...] I don't know how long you guys have been together, but i always like to put a twist on covers. So take the song, and just with the bare ideas pretend its a song you wrote and build it up that way, you can get recognisable covers that everyone still loves, but that also have your own ssssstyley.

Musically it was fine except for your singer he seems to have no concept of melody and little concept of time. If so far he hasn't been able to sing in tune then sack him. There is no point in having the focal member of your band be substandard, it is just as bad if not worse than having say a guitarist that can't play the song but goes up anyway.

Being a good vocalist takes as much practise as playing an instrument, you don't just get up there one day and suddenly find you can sing. Basically find someone who can sing and don't hold your band back.

Akira
09-10-2006, 09:03 AM
Honestly, if you guys lost the singer you would be fine. I know what it is like to be in bands with ****ty singers. My first band for a little while had the nasally singer ever. He had barely hit puberty. It can still be fun, but it is more satisfying to be a band with a good singer.

couple of things...

1. Kick out the lead singer and get a new one that can actually "sing"
2. Dont do acdc covers
3. create original songs
4. kick our the lead singer

then u should be fine!

Yeah, you singer's not too great...at all. Kick him out and stop playing covers. Once you get a legit singer and write your own stuff, you'll find a lot more places want to book you.

Also, if you do covers, make sure you nail them spot on. Keep it to like 1 or 2 covers a show, tops.

I agree. Learning covers with a band is a great way to figure out where everyone wants to go musically, but for actual shows you should try to play originals. You don't want to get the reputation of being a cover band and then try to start playing covers.

i love watching bands do covers at shows. i wouldn't want the entire set to be covers, but i like a 50-50 ratio (in a one hour-ish gig).

But this guy is not braindead, it's up to him whether the singer goes, because maybe this guy IS gonna find his voice, or they'll do something that suits him, i dunno. putting your own spin on covers is good, but it's best to do that after you establish yourself. like if RHCP started out playing covers, they would have just been another no-name random band in LA. however, they wrote unique songs and got everyone to know them. then they released a few covers, like "Why Don't You Love Me?" and "Higher Ground" that were distinctively RHCP.

what i've noticed is that all my friends' bands, and non-friends' bands who are signed to labels have never played covers. then i go to a more random gig and see a band playing a few Metallica, ACDC, Black Sabbath, etc covers, and i NEVER hear of them again. they just kind of go nowhere. because that's what they are. a garage band playing covers. whereas the signed bands establish themselves as unique bands with a sound of their own, who write great songs.

and when i pay to go see a local band or a bigger band, i'm paying to see THEM, not ACDC.

Frist off, in the posts its been pretty common to say ditch the singer. Second, most people have said the band didn't sound bad. Third, I agree smack tard is a terrible insult, but you did say tell everyone in the thread to go **** themselves. Its evident that he knows the singer is bad, but as far as we know only covering AC/DC, cause niether of their singers had an average voice. But, by the show I am really doubting he can sing, can we hear the Jet tune?

Also if your going to write new songs don't make it sound exactly like the band you were playing covers for. There is a local band in birmingham called Blue Moon and they say their main influence is the Black Crowes, but all their songs sound like black crowes songs so try to avoid that.

i shdnt have told everyone to go fcuk themselves, i apologise.

but i think the singer is totally up to him, he knows better than we can. :thumb: to rest of post.

EDIT: to the other guy who talked bout rhcp. Bands that are already writing good tunes of their own by the time of their first gig are obviously gonna go further than those that can only play covers. Its nothing to do with the fact they're playing covers that somehow makes them fail.

okay, thanks for the input dudes, and the other un-related rambling ...............

just so you know, our singer is VERRRRYYYYY in-experienced. it was he's first gig, and he's only been with us for like 1 and half months. we heard him walking down a hall at school singing along to a song and we where impressed. we asked him to a jam, and he did shocking, but he's improved, and is still improving. we are asking him to get lessons, and we only do the one AC/DC cover at them moment, and are writing our own stuff. to be honest, this was our first showe, and we just wanted to test the waters. if we did **** we'd dissapear, write some stuff, get good, and come back after the hard work. i think we did alright ..............

p.s thanks for the input on the singer. i was a fair bit oblivious as to just how un-developed he is, but he IS getting better

AND i'm not sire if this has any relevance but when we jam he only ever has a VERRRRYYYYYY small amp, so he has to yell to be heard
