Sweet buy. I've heard that the RB serries can give a really gritty/growly tone.

I don't even care about the head. I just want your cab really. :p

Congratulations on the buy, though. I used to always want one of those heads.

that would be a tough decision for me too. I love Ampegs and GK, but i think i'm more of an Ampeg man myself.

Nice head man. I have the same one paired with an ampeg svt410-hlf classic. I love it. :thumb:

this head is BEASTLY... not even 1/4 vol. shakes my whole house.

at practice, im more than loud enough, i love it. and i dont have to worry abot over heating or anything. im barely pushing it at all. its awesome. and the tone is just amazing..
Jody - Yeah it is sort of an odd combo, but the swr adds alot of low end to the already low GK. it's awesome the growl i get from it.

I'm still confused as to why people buy the 1001-RB instead of going with a 2001RBP and a power amp, aside from the additional rack space you'd need for most (but not all) power amps. Congrats all the same.

Lush, get some really thick 4 mill neutrik speakon cables to put between it and you've got one lush amp there.

Well Chris, I know this one guy who previously used this 1000 watt poweramp in combination with a pre-amp. He loved the GK tone and could buy a 800RB from a friend for cheap. So he did and he plugged the beast in and thought: wow, this is bloody loud!

Reason number two: somebody from MX quoted a technican from the GK forum someday and he said that some of the GK growl really comes from the poweramp that they use and especially when you push it fairly hard.

Reason number three: to double your volume with a 300 watt amp, you'll need 3000 watt. So roughly you get an increase of 30%. And maybe they don't need that increasement and want a single unit.

I can totally find myself in those arguments and wouldn't buy a seperate poweramp. That said, I'm playing at a very low volume with my band, or atleast we try.. So we save our ears, hear eachother way better on the stage and get a better sound for the crowd, because we don't mess it up with a lot of stagenoise.

:thumb:

Not to take you down, but that are arguments for the alternative. :smoke:

I can understand your other arguments, and won't bother arguing against them (though points could be made). The argument that I've quoted I will argue against. Daniel Elliot (GK technician) has confirmed with me that the 2001RBP into a separate power amp will sound the same as the 2001RB. If that's the case then your statement doesn't really hold water. This is assuming that he gave me correct information, but considering that he is a technician for GK I'll assume he's correct.

My point in general is this: For relatively the same price as the 1001 you could have the tone of the 2001 (i.e. GK's top-of-the-line head). That's the only point I was really trying to make.

There you go! It's a bit bigger post down there. And I agree that points could be made. I was just giving a bit of a push to the other side, so people won't read a single oppinion, which is often found on forums. This leaves room for a nice discussion if it is needed. :thumb:

^^^I agree, I'm not trying to say that my opinion is better.. its just how I'd roll if I were to go the GK route again... My 2001RB blew up on me :(
