And I feel compassion for the sad and alone PECOAE... Indeed, the KleptoJesus is full of mirth, and arbitrarily stolen knicknacks.

Techno Stuff:

I'm listening to Christmas in Tahiti. I really enjoyed the first few seconds, but I started to become disappointed. The lyrics - to me - seem kind of stupid, but that is just the impression I get. The vocals sound pretty good, but they don't excite my interest. In this song, the music is proficient and it sounds decent but... I guess it just didn't do much for me either.

I'm listening to Live now. The vocals sound like they might be off a little when she says "this is the part where you reconsider." Is this you, I am assuming? In fact, the whole song kind of sounds out of key, which isn't necessarily bad, it's kind of interesting. But it isn't a remotely commercial song, same for Christmas in Tahiti. I was getting some static at the end of the song, intentional?

Now I listen to Time. This one is pretty spicy (good thing). The music is pretty crazy... I haven't decided if it is pure **** or genius .................................................. .................................................. ........... I am still not sure. It's interesting though.

I don't think I am going to listen to the last one. But three that I listened to are interesting and different. I didn't enjoy any of them very much on the first listen, but I have a feeling they could grow on me. You don't conform to very many standards of music or songwriting, and that originality is pretty compelling. Keep up the good work, sorry for my random-thought commentary... but I was listening to the songs while writing.

Check out my thread on this forum, it's the one called "Levi Must Die!", it's very different from this but I am thinking about putting up some of my techno/industrial stuff in the near future. BTW, what software are you using to write this and record your vocals?

P.S. I listened to the last song too, but I don't remember if I have anything to say about it.

Didn't hear The Bottle?

Or the Acoustic stuff?

Pecoae is never pleased.

Anyway, thanks a lot for the feedback and I'll check out your stuff.

And it's Fruity Loops + Garageband.

By the way - I'm a guy with a high-ish voice. Still pretty offended tho.

j/k.

I think it was cool that you did a Radiohead song! Your voice is oddly cool, I didn't like it at first but I grew on me. Really rough recording but pretty cool all together!

Uses of the word "cool" by a "Pseudo Intellectual" in three sentences: Three.

Heh, thanks. How's my voice "oddly cool"? (Though I like the description.)

Listened to any of teh others?

I'll check out your stuff.

Yeah, the psuedo intellectual thing is a joke ::smoke:

Your voice kinda has an Elliot Smith (post heatmeister) quality to it (in my opinion). At first I didn't like, but there was something about it. I listened to all of them, all I can really say is keep practicing and see if you can get some recoding studio time. It make a hella difference.

I listened to Catcher in the rye and I really didnt like the guitar
It just didn't sound like the guitar was supposed to be playing with the singing
Maybe it was meant to be like that but I didn't really enjoy it

I agree with Swill Merchant though, your voice is oddly cool.

On Catcher in the Rye, turn up the vocals a little and turn the guitar down a bit.

PECOAE

Thanks for that; will do.

Anyone else got anything else to say?

New instrumental up!

"Mystery Man", its electronic. Check it.

Dude, I like your voice and songwriting... however you're playing is horrible. I think you should find a good guitar player to write with and play your stuff  You can't play on time properly.

PECOAE

Well, maybe if I was playing with someone else.

Because I'm fine in a band setting.

And Eyeglass Sandy isn't bad: it's all me.

But you're right, I need a band.

What song do you like?

Maybe if you lowered your voice in the mix a little bit it would be better.

Your voice actually fits the music quite well and is easy to listen to; doesn't sound forced or awkward at all. My favorites were "Eyeglass Sandy" and "Catcher In the Rye"--the songwriting leaves little for me to critique but, as was said before, the guitar playing itself could be a bit more...refined.

I like ES and CitR a lot too.

Now, can someone listen to the electronic stuff?

Thanks for listening to Sedated. :)
I love your voice and the guitar tone on Sandy, compliment each other very well, really cool straightforward neat vibe. Going on my MP3 player. :)
Live also has a neat vibe, parts seem kinda random as someone else said but I think it kinda works for that song, that kinda mood. The synth bit you first hear at :14-:17 is SO COOL, it reminds me of the 24 themesong, which is awesome.

Cool stuff!

I was kind of unsure while I was listening to it at first, but I realized about halfway through your songs what I was going to say. You have tons, and tons of potential, but right now, it's just alright. I know these are just ideas, but the clipping in the recordings really distracted me from the music. I thought the electronica was better than the other page, but that's just me. With better production it could have a really sweet Flaming Lips-esque vibe.

Your voice is great, especially for the music, and your songwriting is quite good. It's just in all those songs I didn't really see you harness your full potential, you know what I mean? Like, they were on the verge of being amazing, but like sliver said, you need a band. Those could be some very good songs with very, very good vocals if you could get some good musicians and good production.

Keep it up. You've got something, for sure. Just keep working on it, especially on production and on your talent with the instruments themselves, because you've got a great sense of creativity. If I were you, and I were looking to make a demo or an album or something, I might write some new songs. I'm not sure on that, though, so don't take it the wrong way. Keep the vibe you have in your songwriting, for sure.

On a sidenote, I like your sense of humor. Sounds like the type of guy who would make that kind of music. Whatever that's supposed to mean.

Would you mind giving mine a review? It's alright if you don't.
http://www.sputnikmusic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=497281

EDIT: Oh, and by the way, your guitar is way out of tune on the theme music one. Also, I didn't listen to Catcher in the Rye the first time through. Playing is pretty bad. But the vocals are still sweet. Reminds me of... something. Am I thinking Marc Bolan? Maybe.

EDIT again: Listened to the electronic stuff again after I saw you wanted more reviews on that. It's all good stuff. Just needs better production. I hope you listen to the Lips, 'cause you've got a similar sound. Also, check these guys out- they posted something on here a while ago, and I still listen to them. There was a third song, but whatever. http://www.myspace.com/abandonedbrain Reminds me of your electronic stuff.

3rd EDIT: Aw crap. I just noticed that Abandoned Brain had posted a link to their site just recently and you'd already checked it out. Man, do I feel beat.

PECOAE

I love the Lips - and I like my electronic stuff more too.

Live, Time, and The Bottle are my favourite songs.

But I have to get a third page, because there's a whole lot of other better acoustic stuff that I haven't put up.

I'll make one today and edit it in.

Thanks a lot for the GIGANTIC crit, I really appreciate it and I'll definitely check it out.

Yeah, I need better production, I know. That's definite.

And the production kind of distracts me from playing - I'm usually quite good on the guitar and drums, but listening to myself playing among a crappy recording background, I really can't play.

Thanks again!

I'm not talking necessarily of having a band even... I'm just saying that you need to practise playing with a metronome at least, because you can't play on time very well. Also you're guitar is out of tune a lot.

Regardless of this... you're creativity and unique singing style shows a lot of promise. How old are you by the way?

Check out some of the electronic stuff - it might give you more insight on my influences and what I like to do.

And it is difficult to play with recordings - operating things while playing and singing you know.

Anyway, check the electronic stuff.

Thanks for your comment on my songs. Now I'll comment yours.
The thing that came into my mind when listening to your stuff is: This mucisian is on the right track, but still searching. I think you're still searching for your sound, tune, thing in general. I hear some potential.

One thing I really like was the recoring sound. It was to rough, but it reminded me not to try and over-do my own.

I think it could be something, but right now it isn't the kind of thing I would listen to. But that's fair enough I guess. Good luck! :)

Heya PECOAE, indeed it is your first responder back again. It was I who first took mercy on your poor, critique-craving soul.

Anyway, I just put up 3 short electronic songs, on my website (see thread), and I thought you might want to take a gander...

I will check out your non-electronic songs in the near future, and that is a promise.

I got an album coming out, actually!

The Bottle - and as you were the first of my saviours, you shall sample it first with the lead single, "Prodigy" (new!) and "Live", which I think you've heard. It's electronic.

I'm doing somethings with vocals for four songs, but i should be done by late November.

I'll check your stuff!

Eye Glass Sandy: Interesting, different stuff. The production is very rough but it's also creative and well done, in it's own little way. I actually like the flanger (or is it phaser?) in the background, even though I usually don't like that type of thing. I'm not sure what the lyrics are, but what I caught sounded decent. In the chorus, an inconsistent relationship between the guitar and vocals can be frustrating. Good work though, sir.

One Man Band: I don't like your acappella vocals at the beginning. I don't like the way the drums come in. And their only-partly-rhythmic rat-ta-tatting is mostly distracting. Mixing the volume down a little bit couldn't hurt. I think that you need to work on being on-time in all parts of this song. I caught a glimpse of lead guitar that sounded very cool. The back-up vocals are cool and ironic, but sometimes the song becomes frustrating because of the lack of synchronization among the instruments.

Exit Music for a Film: Radiohead kicks so much ***. I listened to the first minute of yours and it all sounds in order, I would turn down the vocals a little bit. Wait, I just got to the "breathe, keep breathing" part... and the backup vocals are almost cool, and almost annoying. Interesting either way.

Catcher in the Rye: this is named after my favorite book of all time, so I am partial to it. The part where the tempo slows (right before "why can't you show your feelings?", the first time) is bad, I think. I like the drums for the most part, they are achingly simple, yet effective.

You should work on timing and making sure your voice isn't offkey.
I will listen to your electronic stuff again, I guess.

...dear God... I just wrote an epic post commenting on all of your electronic music, and then I submitted it, and then there was some sort of error and I lost the whole damn thing. Needless to say, I am peeved and you should be to. We lost some insightful commentary there.

I will hence make my comments brief.

Your vocals seem to be out of key at times. The intro riff in "Woman Actual" sounds a little bit too similar to "Paranoid Android". Good work overall. I think I liked "Prodigy" the best but I cannot even remember at this point, sorry but I can't bring myself to double-critique right now.

I would be interested in collaborating with you, how would you want to go about that? Can I send mp3 files to you via email? I don't know. Anyway, get back to me in my thread, because I might forget to check yours.

Edit: what I meant to ask is, "is there any way that I could transfer a file to you that you can edit in fruity loops?"... I guess 6 and 3 aren't compatible.

I listened to your Radiohead cover again and some other stuff and whatnot. It's all OK, but I'm not a huge fan of your voice. It doesn't fit the music too well at all. Also, on your real instruments ones, everything is always off time. I would be glad to record a version of Exit Music using the exact same instruments as you, then just send it as a WAV file (or whatever you need) for you to sing over if you'd like. I think having in time instrumentation would improve it a lot.

I think your voice would sound better if you jazzed up your timing a little. Threw things in on offbeats and in odd places, as well as phrased things differently. Listen to some of the great female jazz singers (even males if you want, your voice is fairly masculine) to get an idea of what I mean. That and ELIMINATOR IS SERIOUS 100% OF THE TIME. Oh and take vocal lessons.
