I'm not a regular in R&M by any stretch, which is strange. I listen to rock more than anything else, yet the only music forum I post in with any consistency is "Jazz, Funk, and Blues." Hemm. Anyway, to the point of my thread:

How is election to the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame take place? Is it a voting system governed by journalists, similar to a sports HOF? Are there some credentials that a band/artist must fullfill before he is considered?

ITT we can also discuss artists who deserve recognition, consideration, unanimous election, etc., to the R&R HOF. For example, I think Rory Gallagher (and all of Taste, for that matter) deserve consideration.

Not everybody is happy with the selection process, which some feel is effectively controlled by a few individuals, including founder Jann Wenner and writer Dave Marsh, and therefore reflects their tastes, rather than the views of the rock world as a whole.

Many bands get the shaft because of this.

A lot of it has to do with record sales I would think.

That's dissapointing. So the question is this:

Who should get to decide? Fans? Journalists? Major Label artists? Other HOF members?

See, that's where I think the idea sort of fails. There's no real "Fair" way of deciding. It'd have to be a combination of all those things.

If fans and artists recieved one vote in entry annually respectivley, and the journalists decided the rest, I think that would work well.
