Writers block...drill through it with innovation or fly over it with drugs.

Maybe you should take a little break from your playing. Take a few days off and maybe that will help a little. Try listening to different genres, it may spark some creativity.

I think everyone experiences that every now and then.
My advice would be to either just step away completely for a few days, or play another instrument if you have one laying around. Basically, stay away from the bass for a while and that might help.
Edit: Beaten. <_< Great minds think alike.

heres what i do to keep myself thinking outside of the box. i play to a drum machine and create a single riff. after i have an established A pattern, i play the pattern over and over, but i start on different beats.
||1 e & a 2 e & a 3 e & a 4 e & a || added for refferance
for example if i started the riff on the 1 beat, next time i will start it on the 1 & beat. and the next time i would start the riff on the 2. and the 2 &. etc.

listen to new music, or old music you used to listen but don't anymore.
or take up something new.
i play the synth now more than my bass.

do what phil said. listen to music you don't normally listen to, broaden your horizons. Also, watch a movie on mute and play to the characters. it's good fun.

writers block is a good time to work on techniques and just learning harder songs by other people, im haveing a bit of writers block at the moment and so im learning a load of stu hamm and just transcribing things to bass using tapping, allso learning swept arpegeos and stuff, im shure wen iv saturated my curent capacity for learning ill be full of more idias wich will come out through improvisation.
allso jaming along to music you wouldnt normaly asociate with hard bass or soloing etc, i sugest hiphop/r&b and some drum n bass, great to jam to.

I usually get a bunch of new music to listen to and maybe take a break from my playing. Then after listen to some good music for a few days i've got some more insperation. Or like peeted said work on scales or techniques.
