Alrighty so over the past month or so I've been learning this song.
I'm now at the extremely fast, insane bit...you know the bit. I reckon I could pull it off, I just can't figure out what technique he's using. Some people say he double pop's the muted note. If this is correct, how does one go about double popping? If it's not correct, do any of you know what he actually does?

I suck at double popping, so I can't help you with that. To play that part though, I used to slap alternately between my thumb and the right side of my hand. For more info, get someone here to explain the Fieldy technique to you, because I'm too lazy.
PS: DON'T TURN THIS INTO A FIELDY THREAD

I think this may be the pattern he is using for the double pluck.
left hand hammer - right hand thump - right hand pointer pluck - right hand middle pluck

I think you are most certaily right. He could also be DT-DP-DT-DPing
I want to be able to DP one day.

I play it just using my thumb (the main riff atleast) so I go, tap note, thumb, thumb, tap, thumb, thumb etc.

Any chance anyone can point me in the direction of a lesson on double popping? I've searched the lesson archive here and came up with nothing.

There isn't really much of a lesson that can be written about double popping. It's pretty straight forward. Use two different fingers, pop with one, then pop with the other, and try to make it one fluid motion. It just takes a hella lotta practice.

Ah. I have tried that a few times. Yeah it's not easy...guess I just gotta get to practising then!
Once I get it down I'll post a video of me playing the whole song. I'm hoping to have it done in the next couple of weeks.

He does OHPP, open hammer pop pop. He slaps the string open, hammers on to the first nore, then double pops the mutes.
