View Full Version : So Much Music!

Ok, this is not necessarily a bad thing at all, but I have so much music I have not listened to and so little time. I bought Epitaph by Necrophagist and Celestial Entrance by Pagan's mind 2 weeks ago and still haven't had a chance to listen to them due to schedule and because I've been listening to Dream Theater as well as been busy with the recording of my own music for a demo tape (wish me luck!)
Then I get completely blindsided by A Matter of Life and Death by Iron Maiden and when I got that I also picked up Black Water Park by Opeth, Stupid Dream by Porcupine Tree as well as a John Mclaughlin album. I have way too much good music and way too little time to listen to it all.
Discuss how one would deal with such a thing or if you've had the same trouble ever?

I'm having this trouble right now. The I have loads of albums that I haven't listened to properly, download or bought. The only time I listen to music is down here at the computer but I get distracted too easily. Any other time, I'm playing guitar, sleeping/eating or out.

i have the same problem, but my biggest problem is that i don't like "new" music; let me explain on an example:
when the new Kalmah album (the black waltz) came out i listened to it and it was: ehh... they changed their style, its not 100% kalmah anymore i don't like it... i haven't listened to the album anymore. till yesterday! and hell, wow... this album just kick ***... its amazing!! i love it.
and its not the first time that this happens to me... so i just decided i won't buy an album that isn't older than 3months :p
do you have this problem too?

I have approx 500 albums, but seeing as my iPod broke (surprise surprise) I need to find a suitable replacement, because I literally find it hard to go a normal working day without music
for now I use my CD player, which is ok
I usually listen to an album at a time, usually one which I either havn't heard before, or not in a long time, a good method

lol, seriously though, I listen to hours of music a day, while on the computer/watching music DVD's or doing something non-social like waiting for people/buses, also while playing my own music. During the holidays on days I don't have much to do I could listen to like 8 hours I guess tho.

That's me, except replace Ipod for a Zen.
If I buy new cd's I listen a few times to it on my normal stereo, to get the big lines and after that I play it on my Zen and everywhere where a cd player si actually.
I have trouble fully appreaciating an album if I listen to it on my Zen at first.
Traffic souind and all makes it harder to 'get' the album.
So first time listening an album while out stands for loosing a lot of detail, whcch sucks.

Never buy an IPod, those things are overpriced and have crap all space.
Get a Zen 30gb instead, for less than the the price of an 4gb Ipod, you get almost 8 times the space and it doesn't break, because it's made of, you know...stuff, and not dry twigs, which is what apple use for their products these days

I get through a pair of headphones every couple of months.
Either the wire where it connects to the earphone itself frays and then loses sound, or it happens where it connects to the machine, weaker at the joins I guess.
...and it's probably got something to do with the fact I'm cheap and buy the least expensive ones I possibly can each time.

No, I mean the earphones themselves have just come apart, from use. They've both, at various times, lost their fuzzy covering, and now the plastic covering all the wirings and such has split and started coming apart. They did last me nigh on two years, though.
I'm looking for new earphones, but I'm not all that sure where to look.

All the other time besides sleeping which is like 8 hours or so. I get up at 9/930, throw on music till i start class at 1040, turn it on between classes which can be 1-3 hours, turn it on after classes and study for 2-3 hours, socialize and make/eat dinner etc, and listen to 2-3 CDs before going to bed.
On the topic of ipods: they break easily, which is great because it means I buy a new warranty and get a brand new ipod for the price of that warranty. I'm on my 4th and i upgrade to the latest version each time they break, started on 3rd gen, now have video. $50 per upgrade, roughly. Not a bad deal.

Zen's are ****ing terrible, I broke 3 of them in 1 year (all dropping them about 3-4 feet, the piece of ****). I have dropped my 30gb iPod at least 6 times from around 4 feet (where my hand is) and it still works perfectly. Had the same iPod for half a year now, dropped it twice as much (once on my kitchen floor, which is harder than concrete) yet it still functions and looks as if it's new. iPod's are made of metal, Zen's have a ****ing plastic case. Good thing those idiots from Creative fixed/gave me new ones for free when the piece of plastic broke. Good thing I bought an iPod.
Don't buy a Zen, the cheap price equates to it's terrible design, massive size, and plastic backing (whereas the iPod has METAL backing). My friend has also had a 1st generation iPod since it came out (around 5 years) and his works well. Moral of this post: Zen's are cheap and poorly made. iPod's are more expensive, and are better.
**** Creative, make a decent mp3 player before releasing a tank sized plastic water bottle mp3 player.

The size makes no difference to me, and I'm just going by reports from people I know about the fragility of ipods.
My Zen has been nearly a year without trouble that didn't arise from my own stupidity(it crashed every time I accidentally used my minidisk cable to connect it to the PC, as they look the same)
The size/space thing is my main concern anyway.

I can tell you pretty much exactly the opposite; I've found my Zen (all my Creative mp3 players, actually) to be extremely reliable, despite having been dropped more than once, and I've found iPods drop apart as soon as I look at them. Finding several dozen people to back both positions wouldn't be a problem; preference just seems to be whichever works properly for you first.

You sound just like me. Over the past summer and spring I bought SO many CD's. I actually have a small box on my desk right now with about 15 albums in it that I'm going to slowly open over the Fall and Winter. I think this happened mostly because they're mostly black metal and I don't like listening to a black metal album for the first time in the summer. Whenever I listen to music for the first time it usually seems to have a connection to the time of year that I do.
