Satyricon's Now Diabolical has come out recently and I like the 2 songs i've heard off it called K.I.N.G. and As The Pentagram Burns, I'm thinking about getting this album, what do you think of this album? Do you consider it black metal?

It's crap, actually.
Satyricon used to be pretty good, but this new album sucks.

I have yet to hear it, so I can't really judge it.
Most older black metal bands suck now though, yet somehow Mayhem actually became decent finally.

Mayhem are still good, they just are a quite different kind of good from what they used to be.

There you go then, it may work for death metal, but Black metal is not supposed to be fun in any way, shape or form.

Exactly, once again Ollie :)

That name seems to remind me of a black people making rock n roll rather than black metal rock n roll.

Death N Roll can be really cool, point in case new Entombed and Ablaze My Sorrow's Heartless, but I couldn't see Black N Roll ever being too good. Though Zemial and Ophthalamia are both very good, but I don't think they'd be considered 'Black N Roll'.
I've yet to hear this album though. I actually kind of liked Volcano. It was weird, it was kind of boring, but I thought it was decent.

I actually love KING.
I'm not a fan of "real" black metal so their old stuff doesn't really appeal to me but this is more accessible so I like it. There's a few others I like too but I can't be bothered to look up song titles.

I'm either gonna get this or Emperor's Prometheus, which one would you suggest? Both albums have songs I like like Prometheus has Wordless Chamber and Empty, love that video.

I think Now, Diabolical is okay, in a totally non-black metal way.

Same. I do actually enjoy the album. King and Now Diabolical are pretty catchy (catchy?....black metal band?). However, I would in no way call this black metal, obviously.

Ehh. This album is alright. It's lack of variety is the downfall.

Aye, that's true right enough.
Commercial music automatically makes them not Black Metal.

I think its partly their labels fault as well. In trying to make them more accessible and to gain more fans, theyve watered down the music considerably
I like Now,Diabolical. I've always liked Satyricon. They've evolved as a band, good for them.
As for their label, isn't most Satyricon on Moonfog anyway? That's Satyr's label. It's obviously not outside forces that got them to change, it's what they wanted to do to begin with. Moonfog has some great bands, Dodheimsgard, Thorns, Khold etc.
Flesh Crawl

Nope, im pretty sure theyre on Roadrunner
I dont think theyve evolved at all, theyve just watered down.

Man, they're on Roadrunner?
haha...and they played Download too... can we spell sellout?
yes it's spelled S.A.T.Y.R.I.C.O.N
(I realise that Cradle of filth are one of my favourite bands, and they both are on RR, and played Download, but my point is that they have no pretentions to be BM, and Satyricon do)
Now,Diabolical was on Roadrunner. The moonfog site has Volcano-era and earlier satyricon on it so those probably werent. They may be on RR now but what's wrong with playing to a larger audience? Considering they were an important part of the early scene and are still widely respected in it (consider Thorns) , I don't see why they shouldn't have any pretensions of BM.

I doubt Roadrunner had anything to do with it.
Roadrunner was just distributing the album in countries other than Norway and the U.S. I believe.

There norwegian label is Satyr's label Moonfog Records. There American label was Daron Malakian's label for Volcano, but I think for American this time they may have gone roadrunner.
Maybe.
I really doubt Roadrunner had anything to do with it. Now, Diabolical is just as radio friendly as Volcano.

I'd agree somewhat. He had several entire albums that were just sound experments gone wrong. :p
The last album and first were tight. The others either sucked or had two hit wonder written allover.

First thing I learned: I believe Enter Sandman or Fade To Black. Then didn't take long before I played MoP somewhat well. I learned LD and Die Die my darling in there as well. Nirvana, Mudvayne, Dimmu Borgir and other stuff.
Once night, I was watching headbangers ball and saw videos of The Quiet Place and Progenies...(In Flames & DB)...I went out and bought those albums. Loved them. Then picked up PEM from DB and In Their Darkened Shrines from Nile and loved those. That's how I got away from mainstream crap. :chug:

Hey, but would you rather have Nile lead me away from nu metal and towards Gorod, Necrophagist, Anata, CC, BDM and such.
I love Dimmu, more than then, have all their albums love old and new, but they lead me to Immortal, Dissection, Emperor, Behemoth and such. The antichristian stuff which I love and support lead allover like Vital Remains.
