Yeah, it's pretty heavy. You'll want a quality strap, that's for damn sure.

Yeah buddy, I'm definitely of the belief that more "extreme" ERBs are not for people with shoulder or back problems.
I have myself a 3" PlanetWaves strap with Dunlop strap locks.

true dat. i tend to have trouble seeing myself play anything for a long time above 6 strings. my back has been bad lately, so even my warwick is feeling rather heavy.

I feel bad for Jean Baudin.
At least he can bench his bass for some muscular endurance...

Jean's basses would be insane. I think he has said he almost exclusively plays sitting.
He only plays standing up at shows, and then only with NR which isn't very often at all.

His back must be really strong. I pity John Turner the most though. That double neck 7 must be at least 30 pounds.

I've not seen any pics of Jean standing with anything larger than a 7-string while playing with NR.

I think its chambered so its not quite as heavey as it looks to be.

how can a bass with a "lightweight ash body" weigh 24 pounds????
blizzard

I'm guessing its refering to swamp ash which is noticibly lighter than normal ash.

^ I think it is.
Plus, light and heavy are all relative terms, anyway, unowutimeanlol?

my warwick 5 string is made of bubinga and weighs 5,4 kg wood density 0,88g/cm³
the conklin is made of swamp ash which has a density of 0,55g/cm³
--> that means the conklin could have 60% more material to handle the 7 strings and it would still weigh about as much as my warwick

The 'Joust' only weighs 23 pounds as far as I remember him saying. Blizzard's right, it's chambered, but has lead in the area near the output to keep it balanced, because of the MASSIVE headstock.
Not sure about 'The Hideous Claw' though, or 'Sheep'

You forget neck weight, the weight of the strings, added tuning pegs, bridge, etc. Overall, I'd say the Conklin would be heavier if I had to take a guess, though Warwicks are still heavy.
So...was the point of that post to say how strong you are for being able to handle a Warwick?

Looked like a comparison to me.
Wouldn't the 60% more material cover the neck, tuning pegs, bridge and so on?

Im just saying that im too weak for a 23lb bass. And 23lbs is definately wrong. But before i import one to germany (thats where i live) i need to know how much it really is. When you google for the weight you get this
"Conklin GT-7 7-String Bass Natural Superb looks, active electronics, ... 10.4 kg (23 lbs) but proves that you don't need size and weight to get quality. ..."
but if you click the page youll see that the 2 sentences are not in context...
doesnt anybody here own such a conklin and a scale???
