View Full Version : Album Recs - Pixies, Cake, Smiths
I've heard a few songs I liked from those bands, want to hear more. Which if any albums should I pick up? Thanks.

The Smiths self-titled is the best. Everyone else likes The Queen is Dead though, so I guess pick that one up.
Surfer Rosa is the best Pixies album.
Cake sucks.

Doolittle is what originally got me hooked on the Pixies.
Cake's best album is probably Comfort Eagle.

My favorite Smiths is probably Strangeways, Here We Come. It's as solid a starting point as any. Surfer Rosa for Pixies and Prolonging the Magic for Cake.
Surfer Rosa for Pixies. go in chronological order from there.
doesn't matter where you start for the Smiths, in my experience.
Cake has a handful of cool singles but their albums are boring.

Pixies - Doolitte
Cake - no clue

The Smiths or Hatful of Hollow would be the best starting point for that band.
Hatful of Hollow for the Smiths, and Doolittle for the Pixies.

For the pixies you can't go wrong with doolittle or surfer rosa. Surfer Rosa will give you the best taste of them though.

Get the Greatest Hits for each, and then start working off the rest of the albums depending on which songs you like better. I do recommend 'The Queen is Dead' by The Smiths, that has some really great songs on it.

I would go with Hatful of Hollow for The Smiths.
Surfer Rosa is definitely the best Pixies album.
I like Fashion Nugget by Cake but it's all I have.

I'll throw in Rank for the Smiths, seeing as everything else has been recommended. But seriously ignore DMD and take morrissey's suggestion, she is the man in the know as they say.

Doolittle. :)
Pixies - Doolittle, for getting into the band it's far more accessible than Surfa Rosa, and the better album <_<

I do recommend 'The Queen is Dead' by The Smiths, that has some really great songs on it.I used to do this too, but I'd say get some more reccomendations read some reviews and pick an album yourself. I don't like Greatest Hits comps.
