Simply put, I might play tenors for marching band.
I've been able to play drums and keep a beat but I've never actually learned anything.
I've got a drum practice book from my friend, and also borrowed a practice pad and pair of sticks (Vic Firth 5B). I'm been working on simple things like paradiddles and 5 or 7 stroke rolls. My problem is I can't control it and each stick bounces more than twice. I can only buzzroll so far.
So, is there anything I want to focus on learning? This book I have is Vol. 2 of 2, my friend didn't need 1. I don't know what the first one had though.
Some things are hard without someone helping me, and we practice when we get a chance. I just need to know what to work on and practice when I'm by myself

Do it slow enough so you can do it near perfect, speed it up until you get your new speed down. Your muscles will have a natural memory to remember when to react and make a clean sounding roll.

Sorry, forgot to mention.
I'm broke, can't get money, and won't get money for a while. Anything I get saves up to pay my parents back for fricking night school.
Other than anything free, I can only work with what I have now. Make the best with what I've got.
Simply put, I can't buy any new books or anything.

Well there's nothing to worry about anymore, I can't try out because they 'need me in other places.'
I only wanted to play quads because it's the one instrument I'd switch to, and because we'll only have one quad player next year. A few kids think they can play quads, but they really can't, and won't be able to.
They said a lot of kids are coming up from middle school, but none of them will be able to play quads either. For this year, we expected like 8-10 freshman drummers, and ended up with like 4.
Now, I play tenor sax, which mostly plays the same thing as trombone. If I stay on tenor, we'll have one TS and one TB next year, which isn't enough at all. We always have 10-12+ altos, I don't see why some of them couldn't switch to tenor. But I guess for now I'm still playing tenor sax.

Well... I don't know about the try-outs. Might not until they happen. At least 3 kids, including the one teaching me, have told the director I should play quads. No one else will be able to.
They'd rather have one quad player than let me play, they want me to play something else. Quads are the only thing I'd switch to. I wouldn't worry about quads if we wouldn't only have one next year.
But I've been working on trying to play quicker and stuff, and different stuff with accents... Just trying to improve

New update... I'm still trying out next year, I don't see why not... I've been practicing a lot, and I can read and play a lot of the music. I was actually at the drumline sectional today, listening and watching, and I played one song and parts of another... No one else, other than the current players, are better than me, so I doubt I'd be turned down unless they really needed me to play something else
