Yeah, and gotta love the cymbal song and drum song. Using the snare strainer sound for effect, lol, works great too.

That thing he does with the cymbals in water is awesome. I did that with a small gong last year in band, it's such a cool sound.

The videos on this site never work for me. Only audio plays. Even if I download it. And this is the only site I've had this problem with.

Gavin is just a plain awesome player.
Knows when to hold back, and really lets rip when he does.
Some very nice metric modulation he does, too.
Gavin's great...I might be seeing PT in October :D

Isn't that an oxymoron :p

Same with me. Only it's usually after several cans of baked beans.

Yeah. Years ago though. Used to go over to his house in watford. He was refurbishing a big kit I remember. I knew he was good but tbh, I had NO idea how big his name would be and just how amazing a player he was turning out to be. Couple of times went along to see him doing some jazz/fusion gigs in pubs near me with some of the best players around on the UK circuit. His dad was a trumpeter with the BBC big band, so gavin already came from a musical background which kinda helps. But he worked hard, very dedicated.

wow, definetely not a lack of creativity in that guy. Everything sounded wonderful. Man, if only i could get my toms to sound that good, anybody know his secret?

Dunno about the toms, but gavin said he uses a compressor plug in called "Waves C1" to fatten up his snare sound.

That guy is great, first time i've heard of him. That's sweet that you were taught by him.

Wow, I just watched those videos, and I am amazed. I think Porcupine Tree is going to be the next band I get into.

so basically, it's impossible to get drums to sound that good naturally?
and if it isn't
would someone please make an extensive post on how to get them to sound that way. I know the basics of tuning heads and i can get my to sound decent, but i can never get them to sound great. I could understand if my kit was some crappy beginner set but it's not. It's a Pearl (some line that i don't know though).
