Best is DW IMHO because it is quick and easy the swap out heads.
Tama is the worst I feel. Limited AND over kill.

Whats with all these random threads you start???
The Tama one is bad, but it's not the worst. The worst is the pearl one....
What i don't understand is everyone goes bitching about the starcast, but the RIMs system is practically the same thing...

i think yamahas suck...all the mounts either impale your drums or come really really close to impaling and that scares me...

I like the RIMS mount, easy for me honestly. I plan on having them for my custom drum kit, which is my next kit.

IMO the mounts on the sonor designers are the best. i don't really know what the worst are, but i'm not the biggest fan of the pearl ISS, i like the omnimounts, but for some reason i'm not the biggest fan of the ISS.
RIMS is really cool though, because most custom companies can put hardware on the RIMS that is compatable with most mounting systems. which custom company do you think you're goin' with santi3?

I liked my Tama starcast mounts. I just got a Yamaha with YESS mounts so I'll see how I like those once I get a chance to play it.
Thus far I can't get the toms on their mounts though even :-\ /feels dumb

i don't like my pearl mounts. meh.

Yamaha's YESS is the best mounting system.
Pearl's is the worst.
I would never get pearl or tama drums, just because of the mounting systems even if their shells were the best.

My favorite is easily Yamaha, with Sonor coming in second place. I don't know what my least favorite is, I haven't played anything that's really given me problems.

I'm not terribly bothered, but I don't care for the Pearl system (mainly on aesthetic grounds
Low-end Premier (Cabria etc) system is pretty bad too - all wobbly and unstable
Apart from that I don't really care.
My favorite is a snare stand, Or RIMS mounts.
I hate ALL pearl mounts and Yamaha mounts..

Worst mounts ive seen are pulse. But then there entire kit just sucks.

I really like Sonor's TAR system, and Mapex's mounts. Very stable and they don't stick out obtrusively in anyway :thumb: The absolute rock bottom of bad is on basically every low-level kit...the dreaded L-rod piercing the shell. It's just awful.

Yup...I've been playing on one of those for about four years....
Hopefully getting a major upgrade soon though.
From what I've seen, Yamaha's mounts are great. I like the Mapex mounts as well. I'd never buy Tama anymore, I wouldn't want to take the risk of the mounting system killing my toms.

That's pretty stupid tbh.
You can always switch the mounting system on a shell if you hate it that much.

Well I wouldn't trust a company that doesn't take the time to check if the mounting system works properly. Because that sounds to my ears like "I don't care about you and your drums after the sale"
Enough said?

i had to take the 2nd tom off my set cause of the mounting system..i'd hit the drum acouple times then BOOM it falls on the bass leaving some gashes to an already crappy set

Not they are not.....
Starcast is about twice as heavy , it bolts on to your hoops , which forces you to use tama die cast hoops , isnt as postionable as the RIMS system , only takes its own bracket
the GTS/RIMS on the other hand lets you use any type of hoops you want , is lighter and the bracket can be configured/changed to mount any arm you'd want to use to mount it.
that is a Big Difference

who are you to say it doesnt work?
What's it's job? To hold up toms. What does it do? Holds up toms.
It does it's job, it just has a few more inconveniences than the others.

YESS mounts are very nice, as are Opti-mounts. Whoever said they don't serve their purpose has clearly never tried them, they are bloody amazing. I have never had a problem with them.
Least favorite would be the shell piercing L-rod style.

id have to say my favorite is the dw, or sonor, or mapex, the RIMS, which i have on my drums, make them harder to position, so do tamas, and im afraid of how little the yamaha mounts are, and how they pierce the shell.

This one I came to love, Dorsia Drum Co. Small company, but absolutely love the sound and the finish I'm getting on it. Woot!

I kind of like the ISS mounts. They seem to do pretty well. Ludwid's mounting is good...but that's about all that I've dealt with honestly, and I don't have an complaints about ISS or Ludwig's.

YESS mounts are pretty reliable. they may be incredibly close to the shell, but it would take a lot of force for it to actually make contact.
they drill holes in points of the shell where it does not vibrate, so basically theres no sound difference.

My favorite are mapex's mounts by far they barely cover any of the shell and don't add much weight at all.

you cant get those hoops anymore can you know?
also you instead of picking up hoops that everystore that carries a decent drum line , you have to pay tama and order the hoops
The Gretsch is basically RIMS mount
maniac0796
09-05-2006, 07:56 AM
You can use any triple flanged hoops on the staclassics, you just have to have the right connecters. But i'm not sure tama makes em anymore because all their lines with the starcast (starclassic and superstar) have die casts, but you might be able to buy the little clip things.

the hoops need holes for the mount
maniac0796
09-05-2006, 10:03 AM
There are absolutly no holes in my rims. If one of my rims snapped or bent, i could go and buy a new rim from anywhere, and it would work with my starcast
I would go dismantle one of mine and show you, but i'm too lazy to take it apart, take photos, put it back together, and then re tune.
Or i might not have to retune it, i'll go see

I LOVE the optimounts and sonors TAR mounts.
However im edgy about ball and socket arms.

The starcast does(or did until Rockstar left us) not require die-cast hoops. My old teacher had a Rockstar with Starcast and triple flanged hoops.

And to back up what kronos, spike9908, probably zildjian, and i have been saying, i took off one of the clamps for my starcast and took some pictures!
With the clamp on, along with my triple flanged hoops

With the Clamp offhttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/fbb_maniac/P9050121r.jpg
Where are these imaginary holes i need to put the starcast on my hoops? Nowhere! Thats right, with the flanged hoop version of the starcast, you can use it on anydrum. And even with the die cast, you can buy the clamps, and use a triple flanged hoop if you ever had a breakage, which i serverly doubt with a die cast rim...
The die cast system basically get's rid of the clamps and you just have that single rod with the washers and suspension things going through a special hoop.

I've not played very many different drum sets in my two years of drumming. I have a Ludwig Accent kit, and while I'm not too fond of the concept of the tom mounts (the arms go right into the drums, as with most entry-level kits), they are sturdy and hold up well.
I think the LIFTS system peace uses is great, but if I'd have to choose, I would pick RIMs, because they can fit on any tom (well, if you buy the right ones they do :p). I don't really like Optimounts, although they do their job very well.
