This bummed me out, he was such a passionate guy.

Am I the only one that thinks he wired all of his money off to an offshore account and faked his own death so that he could finally give up the forced accent and live a life of peace on a small island in the bahamas?

It's a conspiracy gosh darn it!

sg_bassist

even though i'm not aussie, i've been living down under long enough to fully appreciate all that this country has to offer, one of those things being the enthusiasm that Steve Irwin shows in his work. true, he's made a few controversial decisions, but the fact that he usually takes all the risks to teach the world about the environment (and have the occasional slugfest with a croc) is enough proof for everybody to respect him.

rest in peace, mate.

Of all the things he's done.....a sting ray? Wow, makes me think twice about swiming over a sting ray in the near future. All joking aside this is probably the saddest death this year. (Syd Barrett was my favorite songwritter!) He's done so much good, it's a shame he had to go but at least he died doing the things he loved.

Rest In Peace
~Steve Irwin~

I feel bad for his family, but not for him. You mess with sting rays and they'll f'uck your sh'it up. He was always pissing animals off (which is usually a good thing) and one finally took him out. Disgruntled crocs everywhere are cheering.

I know a lot of people disliked him, but even if you do.. you can't argue with the fact that he loved what he did for a living. Sad day. He did a lot of great things.

dude stingrays are famous for being so very not aggressive

if the barb hasn't hit his heart he'd've been fine

I was hanging out with an Australian friend of mine last night and when this subject came up his replie was an enthused "Yes!"

I guess he thought this guy gave Australians a bad name.

I guess he thought this guy gave Australians a bad name.
I've always thought that the driven passion to education and ecological awareness was a big plus to Australia's image. He acted goofy, but when you think about the things he did, it's not a negative.

are you kidding me. A stingray barb to the heart? we could have seen it coming? It seems to me the chances of a sting ray hitting you with its barb just right to where it goes under your ribcage and punctures your heart are pretty unlikely...

I think he meant that eventually one of the animals would get the best of him. And when you think about it that is certainly true because all of the dangerous encounters he puts himself in.

The sad part was when he was holding his baby near a croc. That was completely stupid. I personally thought crocodile would eat him sometime, this stingray incident is a shock. It's sad, he was pretty knowledgable about animals, I remember him talking on late night shows and explaining crap about them. Educating us about our wilderness.

Either way, he was only 40 something, that's pretty young for anyone so his death at his age is kinda shocking too.
