I just tuned most of my kit for the first time today, it went great surprisingly, www.videodrumlessons.com helped so much! However, I have been having problems with my snare wires making an annoying noise, when I took them off I noticed some were bent and its my parents fault. (I'm not gonna bother going into detail) But since I'm just starting practically, I've decided to wait it out until I know more about the sound I want out of my snare, and until I can decide what kind of snares to buy. I removed them with ease, then my parents called me up for supper, then, when I came back down, I couldn't remember how to put them on right. My snares aren't the ones with the string at the end, they have the plastic things at the end. Help is very much appreciated.

ok, on the strainer itself, the thing that you lock in place to lock the snares in place, there will be two screws that a drum key will be able to fit over. those two screws will be to tighten a bar type thing, put one of the plastic tabs under that bar and tighten it http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/jimboman555/drumstuf2.jpg
than put the snare wires back in place under the drum, and then there will be another bar like that first one, except itll be alone, without a strainer, pull the wires tight and put the other plastic tab under that bar and tighten the screwshttp://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/jimboman555/drumstif1.jpg
and sorry for the pic sizes

no problem, drums can be as confusing as hell sometimes, haha, especially to a beginner, ah, i remember the days, i was soooo confused, but if ya keep playing on, than it gets a lot easier to understand

Just when you re-attatch the snares try to have them so that when they are 'engaged' or 'on' they are in the middle of the drum.

Question here, would changing the wires on a snare to a newer, perhaps better set of wires, affect the sound of the snare at all?

Only with the snare on,, I find that with newer better wires you can obtain more of a ''Crack'' sound,,,

You can also get different strands to give different sounds.

The best sound comes from a strand with lots of wires IMO. A new set makes cheap snares sound good. It aint worth shizzle if it aint got that sizzle:)
