I remember someone posting a video a while ago. It was someone blasting out metal while playing traditional grip. Can anyone help me out here?

I saw one a while back too, where the thread turned into a fight about that kind of drumming not being "musical" or "hard" to play or whatever. The drummer in that video was playing metal with trad grip. Is that that one your talking about?

How is that blasphemy? It's getting connected with the roots of drumming more so than playing using matched. I think its refreshing personally.

Yes that's the one and I have a metal head to pwn on another forum. He says blast beats are the most difficult thing to do in drumming, you can't play metal/loud with traditional grip, blah blah blah. Full of ****.

That's crap. Even my guitarist can do blast beats, and I play metal with traditional.

there's that guy with the funny afro on drummerworld who plays like metal/fusion. sounds like billy cobham but he's a skiny white dude.

there's a few punk players out there who do

*shrug* it's doable, just much more work.

I find myself switching to trad. just out of habit from playing marching snare.

Traditional, as most of you probably know, was used when marching snares were playing on a sling at an angle, so it was "invented" so the left hand could more accurately hit the snare drum. Yet on drum set, its just difficult for fills, I feel as if I get more power with matched. Yet on more jazzy or slow things, I tend to play tradish. good times good times.

Exactly.

In my ongoing quest to distance myself from the metal drummer image while still playing metal, I thought about that, but yeah... not worth it AT ALL.

I think I know the video you mean, it was on youtube for a while. The drummer was the guy from Napalmn Death, but I don't know his name, tearing out a drum solo. Is that the one you mean?

Stunning solo aswell!

Nope, it was in my favourites, but the guy who uploaded it, removed it.

No luck there!

The drummer from Napalmn Death is called Nick Pierce, if that helps jog anyone's memories.

In the thread someone posted him in, everyone hated him, said he sucked. And basically anyone could do it. .
