I just started to get into this band and from what i've heard, I'm really impressed. If some of you didn't know, three of the members of At the Drive-In are in this band. Could anyone recommend me some albums [besides Wiretap Scars] or songs?
Thanks.

I really dig Porcelain, it's a much overlooked album at times.

Feh. Judging by the few Sparta songs I've actually heard, they're pretty much Cap'n Jazz clones, excepting the production values.
Infact I'm positive the riff from Cut Your Ribbon was in a Cap'n Jazz song.

I quite like Sparta, I feel they got overshadowed a bit after the ATDI break-up when most people got excited about Mars Volta instead.
They do really good work, no new album since Porcelain? It was a good one, they're great at what they do. They played an extremely solid live show in Sydney a few years ago.
New album comes out this year I think. they have a new song up on their purevolume page. I like Sparta. Wiretap Scars is pretty solid. I'll prob pick up or download their new one when it comes out.

Wiretap Scars has like 2 good songs, but Porcelain is pretty solid all the way through.

"While Oceana Sleeps" is probably one of my favorite songs by them. Porcelain is a damn good cd.
i could never really get into them or TMV, even though i'm a big fan of at the drive-in

Okay imagine you have this pizza, right? And then the ingredients in the pizza separate themselves, so all you have left (after a few extraneous pieces are swept aside) is a big pile of cheese, and the crust.
ATDI was that pizza. Sparta is the crust, and The Mars Volta is the cheese.
Analogy complete. Oh, and "Collapse" is their best song, as has been said.

Some people prefer eating just cheese to pizza, and others prefer eating just crust.

De Facto is the sauce. Or maybe Omar's solo projects. After all, salsa is Spanish for "sauce."

The more and more i listen to this band, the more and more i only like the Porceline(SP?) album. I dont know why but im extremely turned off by electronica in rock much like i am the mastabatory solo. If that makes any sense, yes I almost stopped liking radiohead. Its funny because I like stuff like Guy Litiaco(sp?) and Jo Jo mayer for their uncannyness to sound exactly like electronic music organically, but im really not a fan of drum machines and keyboards at the momment. I used to make alot of electronic music, now I'm into rock, but i still like to produce electronica on analogue instruments (i.e. guitar bass and drums ) Sparta has always been one to bend the sound barrier with melodic noise, but i only like it when they do it with instruments. So its only Porceline for me heh

well once i finally got over dudes voice i think Sparta is really cool. i love the guitarist though mostly. "While Oceana Sleeps" and "Collapse" are my favorite tracks.
all in all, Sparta and Mars Volta need to quit pussyfooting around and get back together to reform At the Drive-in...i think its better that way.

Haha, i could see the break up long before it happened. The guitar player of Sparta wanted more writting fredom and more spot light time. And the guitar player of The mars volta wanted to branch off into his own writting style ( which showed alot in At the drive in as well ) I think Sparta and The Mars volta are better then At the Drive in because i think both bands are making the music they want to make. You can hear the sparta and the volta in all of at the drive ins songs .. and towards the end they really started to fight eachother for it. I doubt they'll ever get back together because of it

Yeah, it's weird, most people who have seen Sparta open for another band said it was really bad.
I saw them play a headline show and it was one of the best I'd seen, they played for about an hour and a half, great live sound and production.
So yeah, it's really strange that.

Okay I'm listening to Porcelain right now and it's really not that bad. There are definite instances of rocking out which completely caught me off guard!
Now I'm REALLY curious as to what Sparta and The Mars Volta would sound like if you combined them. They wouldn't be ATDI anymore, more like a combination of Sunny Day Real Estate and Santana.

I need to download some Sparta. I'm big on ATD-I and TMV, and I saw a rerun of Letterman with Sparta playing. They sounded really good. Who woulda' thought Ward could sound good on his own?

I saw them live in St. Louis a few months back. It was at a crap venue, but they were absolutely amazing.
I used to like Porcelain more than Wiretap Scars, but the more I listen to WS, the more I like it. Some of the songs on WS take a while to get going, but when they do, they all have catchy melodies and pump up parts.
I'd recommend some songs, but they're all pretty good. Cut Your Ribbon is probably my favorite.

I like Porcelain the best, it has some pretty cool tracks on there. Any of you guys listen to the new album, Threes? I have a little bit, but not too much, so I can't say if it's good or bad yet.

Threes isnt bad. Think some people will be turned off by the more mellow rock direction they have taken. Taking Back Control seems to be the most upbeat song off the album. There are a few guitar solos, although sound basic, sound quite good. Go to their pureprofile and listen to 'Unstitch Your Mouth' cos that seems to be more of what their album sounds like.

I just downloaded Threes last night because I'm tired of waiting for the album to come out. So far I've only listened to a few songs off of it. I need to load it onto my iPod so I can listen to it in my car more.
