View Full Version : Most respected bands in Alternative & Indie - Nominations

Sepstrup
08-30-2006, 12:38 PM
So in this thread you nominate bands that you think might be the most respected by this forum (i.e. the band least people dislike) It's not necessarily restricted to this genre, as people in here generally have a broad taste in music.

Basically I'll run a series of polls where you vote for the bands you don't respect, some will be cut, and we'll continue until there's only one left.

Please don't suggest artists that are too obscure. The nominated artists will be edited into this post. Please restrict your posts to talk about nominations so this doesn't go off-topic.

Definitely not, I always hear people on these boards say they're boring.

In fact, I'd say the people that like them beyond one or two albums are a minority

I definitely do not feel anything for the Pixies, I've never been impressed by them. Elliot Smith is definitely in there. Nick Cave.

Antony and the Johnsons, i've never heard him bashed ever by anyone, and noone ever should.

Elliot smith is just a whiner. I never could get into his music.
Did anyone nominate grandaddy?

I hear bad things about all those bands. ATDI is okay, I've heard really bad things about MTB, I haven't listened to enough Interpol to make a judgement on them but a lot of people don't like them, and I haven't heard Jesu.

Maybe instead of "hearing bad things" about Minus The Bear, you should hear the band itself first?

Scuba_Steve
09-02-2006, 04:06 PM
This should be about respect, not personal tastes anyway.

It's going to turn out stupid if people just vote out people cause they don't "get" their music or whatever.

Yeah, I know, but I've seen many people bash them. I wouldn't consider one of the most respected bands regardless of whether or not I like them.

We here at the Alt/Indie forum are all about the Bear. Just because Pitchfork doesn't respect them doesn't mean we can't all agree how awesome they are over here

Hehe, I guess I'll have to check em out then. I've heard some good things about them.. but more bad than anything.
