Is this really the GTA killer? According to microsoft, this game set a record for the most downloaded demo in LIVE history.

After seeing a decent amount of screen shots, I'm definitely getting this game when it's released. The added muliplayer options with downloadable content really seems to give a big push in the replay department.

How do you think this game will fair against the original GTA games? Do you think its a rip-off?

How do you think this game will fair against the original GTA games? Do you think its a rip-off?Well they definetly "borrowed" some ideas from GTA. But it should fill that "do anything" niche nicely.

Is this really the GTA killer?True Crime was supposed to be the "GTA Killer". That didn't work out.

I wont hold it to as high of expectations as I have for the next GTA, But it does look like it will be fun.

every magazine/web-site I've read said the game was fantastic. Most write ups I've seen gave the game 5 stars as well

I thought the driving really really sucked in the demo. The handling was terrible.

I enjoyed the demo and will play the game at my friend's as he is getting it release day, and until I do I have San Andreas to tide me over.

I thought the driving really really sucked in the demo. The handling was terrible.

The handling is quite terrible. Fun game none the less.

unknownsoldier12

are we talking about terrible, as in driving the hummer in Dead Rising terrible?

I thought since it was a THQ game that riding a bike would be similar to moto gp, which would automatically make this game a must :?

Have you not played the game? The handling isn't very good but you get used to it where you dont notice it anymore.

I have it pre-ordered through Circuit City so i can get the face plate...

that being said, no i havent had the opportunity to play the demo. I dont have LIVE yet, so ive had no way to get ahold of a demo disk

The previews for this game make me wish I had a 360.

ihatemybass

Gamepro has already reviewed it. They praise it rather highly. They've said that it improves on most of GTA's mechanics (Driving, shooting, On Foot controls, etc.)

Group Zebra
08-28-2006, 02:05 PM
OXM gave it an 8.

ihatemybass
08-28-2006, 02:07 PM
OXM is too strict on reviews. They've only had one perfect 10 in they're 5 year history.

I'm a beleiver.

unknownsoldier12
08-28-2006, 02:08 PM
I dont believe in any perfect game, so i can kind of see where they come up with that...

Regardless of how the critics regard this game, all the "buzz" has interested me. I got my gf into video games from the GTA series. If i can use that as an excuse to get her excited for a new game, im there with bells on

There you go. I bought it regardless if they scored it highly or not. The game is great.

o, well, that game is actually bad arse

i got it for 32 bucks, and figured i would just make about 10 bucks off of it. After seeing my brother and a friend play it for 8 hours straight, it definitly caught my interest. It is now in my top 5 for the system

unknownsoldier12

well, you have to understand that when a developer creates a new genre, others will try to make it better. I see it almost as a competition and keeps it from monopolizing the market

Good deal. $60 for a game is way too much.
Americans have no right to complain about the price of games. $60 = £35 roughly, which is insanely good for a 360 game.

PS: N3 sucks balls. Enchanted Arms will be the first good RPG to hit this system.

PS2: I'm still debating on Saints Row. It does look like a cheap knock-off (The "collect the bitches" task in the demo is just pathetic), and the driving can be clunky. But multiplayer sounds good, and you can customize your character.

PS3: Lulz, PS2.

I didn't know N3 was even considered an RPG. OXM gave Enchanted Arms a 6.5, which you can take any way you want, and I think you are forgetting about Oblivion.

lol blatant ripoffs

ok so fatal fury/king of fighters, mortal kombat, dead or alive, virtua fighter, etcetc are blatant rip offs of street figher?

i mean they all involve fighting on a 2d plane, and punches and kicks are thrown.

so like, also there should only be one racing game? cause i mean they all involve some cars trying to get to a finish line

i mean come the **** on,its an action game, thats about crime;for sure shooting out the side of a car, collecting hookers, drugs, police, etc will be involved, and how its done will seem similar.

not that it has any sort of significance, but I only post while at work. As far as that game is concerned, I checked it out over at a friend's house and I thought it was interesting.

Its basically like holding onto the game indefinitely, and if I do not wish to play it anymore, I can trade it for any game on the market. I fail to see the problem

The first impression (im talking first 10 minutes of the game) is weird considering you are so used to the GTA series. My brother kept saying "this game sucks!" After an hour, yup, he was playing pimp missions and starting a gang war :D

The graphics are definitely a huge step in the right direction. I spent 20 minutes in the character creation, making a character that looks exactly like my little brother

People complaining about driving in demo...

Considering I've never played the demo, i couldnt comment much. In the released version of the game, its superior on every front. The cars handle a lot more realistic. It takes some getting used to, considering A is used for gas, X is for the brake, and left trigger is your E-break.

The environments in this game are really the un-sung hero. Checking out the scenery, in regular 480i is impressive. The church has detailed windows and architecture. The cemetary is even detailed, complete with headstones and writing on them.

The "crowd" that you encounter in Saint's Row is a bit more true to life. If you randomly beat up some yuppy on the street, you might see someone cheering you on. The people are a lot more diverse as well. No longer will you see 18 token black guys hanging out together, wearing the same "threads" like you would in San Andreas.

The combat mechanics is this game are drastically improved. If you ever played 'The Godfather', its similar to that. You have a constant cross hair, similar to holding down the trigger in GTA, but you can move and aim with greater ease in this title.

Car drive-bys are greatly improved. Shooting while the car is in motion is a breeze! You can recruit gang members by pressing up on the D-pad, and telling them to shoot out the side of the car is as easy as pressing the right trigger

I downloaded the demo for it and was sorely dissapointed. Maybe it's because I'm not into the whole "gangsta" thing but I thought it was a terrible game. I played for about 3 minutes and turned it off, deleted it, and went back to playing Chromhounds.

I wouldn't even say it was better than SA, even though it's a previous gen game - I'd still rather play that. This just feels like a poor copy. :\

Apparently they are completely different. I would be so bold as to call this the GTA killer because I've played through all the GTA games, and i prefer the changes they made to this game.

The ability to form an online gang is also a nice added bonus

Man, got this game the day it came out. All I can say is that it's a PURE GTA killer. It not only beat it, but set a total new standard. This has to be my favorite game ever right now (bye gta :p). Now even though i'm comparing it to GTA, I have to say something to those who say it's a GTA clone. This game is VERY different.

Generic Joshman
08-30-2006, 07:15 PM
^

When you say its a pure GTA killer keep this in mind: When two companies started working on their individual projects at the same time, and one releases their project earlier, is it going to be better? In my mind i dont think too many people can comprehend how much crap is going to be in GTA4 when it comes out. So yeah, while Saints Row is a finished game GTA4 is still being built and stuff just keeps gettings added.

AA-12
08-30-2006, 07:29 PM

Its friggin huge, but im not sure if its bigger than GTA's map to be honest.

I've been in the same 1/10 of the map for about 5 hours. Its not because i dont want to explore, but i dont want to drive for 15 minutes, then realize my character doesnt have enough respect to play a lot of the missions in that area.

The gang wars in this game are awesome

Phazon Eater
09-01-2006, 04:47 AM
I also really like how they give info on everything possible on the map, like where a clotiing store is, then you can click it and get the route on how to get there from where you are, makes missions a lot better so if your racing against a clock, your not worried about taking wrong roads, etc
