Alright, you guys can help me understand what to look for when buying a VCR or VCR/DVD player, with focus on the VCR part.

What features should I be looking for? Can a VCR or DVD player help your TV reception? Because I have a TV in my lounge room, 5 metres away from the TV in my bedroom and it gets perfect reption (with a VCR). And my TV in my bedroom sucks really hard with just an indoor antenna.

As far as I know VCR's do nothing to improve signal reception. o_0

You need to hook your TV aerial up to the main house aerial which is probably an outdoor one or get one of those signal booster things.

maybe it is working as a booster/repeater if it has a small amplifier. you can get little boxes you plug into the electricity and they boost the signal. as you plug the aerial into the vcr then into the tv the vcr might be doing something similar.
is the lounge one using the same indoor aerial?

if anything, VCRs would actually lessen your signal, as the incoming signal would be another generation as it passes through the VCR.

Whenever I watch TV through the VCR, the audio is a lot bassier and tubbier.

So I shouldn't expect the VCR to boost my signal. But I can get a little box which will boost the signal? Do you a link to one of these?

average signal boosters cost about £30 from any electrical outlet
i don't think they are very good though

vcr's are obsolete, and are only used to play vhs tapes

duh.
he wants to play his vhs tapes as well as dvds and you get boxes that play both.

the whole thead is pretty duh

the dual vhs/dvd players are around everywhere, shouldn't be difficult to find one
and it won't boost normal television reception, its the tv's that do that now

Does this have to plug into a digital set top box though?

nope. you plug in coaxial aerial cable in one end and the same on the other end out.

Ah ok. I will look into buying one then, thanks. The only reason I'm asking all this is because I get awful signal where I am, which I guess is partly because I am in the mountains and mainly because I don't use the roof mounted outdoor antenna, just a shabby indoor one.

why dont you use the roof mounted one?

Apparently it's broken, and I wouldn't even begin to know how to connect it to my TV.
