After hearing about how this is a "must-have" jazz fusion record I finally picked it up a few weeks ago. I've listened to Heavy Weather about ten times now I honestly don't see what's so great about it.
There are two standout tracks, Birdland is pure awesomeness and I love the smooth, snazzy A Remark You Made. Unfortunately these are the only two songs that I really enjoy listening to. Teen Town features a few nice bass licks and Rumba Mama has some cool drumming but I don't find them that special. Not to mention the fact that The Juggler is a complete snoozefest as well as Harlequin. Havona is a decent tune showcasing some nice piano parts but many other fusion fanatics consider this to be a monumental piece of work. I just think that the album is kind of boring, and uninteresting compared to other fusion albums that I have heard.
I dig other fusion bands/artists such as Return to Forever, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Al Dimeola and John McLaughlin but could never get into Heavy Weather. Am I the only one who can't get into this album or am I just not hearing something?
