I saw him play live a couple of months ago in New Orleans. He was an absolute beast on the trumpet, playing in the upper register at a blistering speed.

It was really cool. Just tonight Leigh Keimann(sp?) had alittle tribute to Maynard in his radio show.
I guess I should have realized no one listens to any non-Kind of Blue jazz.

I don't know where exactly you live, but my cousins church hosted him a couple months ago. They are across the lake in Mandeville, but they said that he was so demanding of everything.
He wanted full steak dinners for his whole ensemble
an ironing board
a crate full of bottled water
on top of the $5,000 that his ensemble was getting for that evening.

That's pretty sad. He came to my high school a few years ago and played for two hours with his band. He had to have an oxygen tank backstage to make it through the show, but he didn't miss a note that night.

Wow man, thats a sad happening right there. It always gets me upset when jazz greats any great musician for that matter, dies. You just want them to live on and continue their doings, y'know. My best wishes go out to his family and friends. RIP
