Sure did, The snare + a sum of money for an old DTXTREME kit.

Sounds fair :D

Drum Phil
08-24-2006, 07:12 AM
How much money? And how much did the kit go for?

_Austin_
08-24-2006, 07:16 AM
£350

The electric kit was bought second hand for £1000

The kit didn't sell, i was offered it from an ebay message.

The buyer was a university lecturer, and his girlfriend wanted a quiet kit to match her new hardwood floor!

He gave me a 20min lesson in sub-divisions and polyrhythms which was cool!

Drum Phil
08-24-2006, 07:17 AM
So basically he paid you £2350 for an old e-kit?

_Austin_
08-24-2006, 07:22 AM
The drum isn't worth that much!

£850, the batter hoops is a bit worn and it needs a polish and a new batter head.

You can buy this drum in drumwright for £1200

I believe josiah was referring to $ when he said "2000 plus"

id want one of those, but 13x8.

since cymbals could make a nice sound when theyre hit, can it be possible to have a nice sound when you hit a metal shell?

i wonder what that would be like as a drummmmm...........

Recently went through the whole of the drum tuning bible with this drum and i must say that the tuning bible is a godsend, i couldn't get rid of a nasty snare fizzling sound that was apparent after a stroke was played...

I can't figure out what i did differently when i used the tuning bible, but it helped. a LOT!

I really must get a clip of this drum, i feel the need to share it :D

EDIT: To 'ofDoom'

Even though a solid metal snare sounds appealing, the weight of the drum is not. This drum weighs in at approximentely 15pounds, and the steel one you posted a picture of is nearly double the thickness! I can't imagine how heavy that drum would be!

ofDooM
08-24-2006, 07:51 PM
15 POUNDS?!?!?! JESUS CHRIST!!!!

the one i posted is solid aluminum...so it could possibly be 'lighter'.

_Austin_

I doubt the density will be nearly half that of bronze...

I don't think it would be a wise choice in a gigging situation because of the weight, but studio use would be perfect

ofDooM
08-24-2006, 07:55 PM
15 pounds is like my bass drum...

with that density, is the drum loud? how can you compare it with say, a normal snare drum, or even wood?

_Austin_
08-24-2006, 08:14 PM
Compared to my highwood 14x5.5 birch snare drum it is Very loud...

I'l put it this way...

Its more of an effort to play quieter than it is to play loud. But ghost notes and rolls sound so much sweeter and fluent on this drum than my birch one...

Its difficult to describe. The drum is perfect for rock and funk and anything with a bit of volume. but acoustic or jazz music is a bit too lifeless for this drum. This drum cries out to be played up-beat and with a groove.

That being said, i do have a 4-ply olympic snare drum that i love to bits, but it de-tunes very quickly and the strainer needs replacing. So i don't use it much.

I hope ive given you a good enough insight, You'l know what i mean if and when i post some audio :)

I'd definately recommend a solid metal snare drum. Well worth the mulah

Dude, you have no idea

The original batter head has been replaced, and the batter rim is missing black chrome in a spot, so i can play this as much as i want!
