Yes guys.It was about time for my first gig.
I am playing with a marching band, but the music will be some traditional greek songs.A few other proffesionals will join us. I am member of the band, I am on of the snare drummers, but I will play with a kit for the gig.
The gig is going to take place on Sunday. Every 27-30 of August it happens to rain.I mean every year. Noone can explain it. And the weather forcast said that it may rain this day.
So I need some advice about how to protect my babies (my drums) from the rain.
I cannot rely on other members of the band, for moving the drums to my father's car, cause they are clumsy. They do not the correct way to hold a drum or stand or my pedals. They will destroy it during the transportation.
So what should I do? Setting up my kit on a small platform and if it rains covering them with a big peice of nylon, will work?

Or just get one of those large blue tarps.. They are fairly cheap. Or, when in doubt, wrap your kit in Saran wrap. :D
By the way. Marching percussion is fun as hell. Tenors for the win. :D

If you don't have cases to put your drums in then even garbage bags can protect your drums from the rain when you move them to the car. Some how hanging a tarp over your drums you definately be good to keep the rain off of them. But remember, if its raining hard, then shake off the tarp so it doesn't get too heavy with rain on it. Oh and have a great time :thumb:

I will probably do the second one. However I will have to set up my kit on a platform, otherwise the water on the ground will damage the pedals and the bass drum. But I don't know if I can find a platform.

I dream of playing a concert in the rain, talk about excellent special effects.

I don't know if you would be still excited about playing in the rain, if my kit was yours.

Well maybe a talent scout will see your hypothetical band in this awesome situation persay and than he gives you a contract and you make millions of of touring, I'd sacrifice my kid for that.

Yes. And then you win 12 million $ from the lottery.Come on now.
The songs are very simple. The only show up for me, will be a drumsolo in the middle of a song. However it's not pre-arranged. I am gonna do whatever comes to mind that moments

Then I hope to God, for your sake, that you're good at improv and don't blank out at that very moment.

I would say get a gazebo to put your kit under, put a big piece of wood down and your drum mat on that and put it in bin bags to move it to and from the car.
By the way its not called saran wrap its cling film, get it right!

I would also sacrifice your kid for that, or mine if I had one and you never know I could have a son, contraception isn't 100% protective.
Thats a though, cover your kit in condoms to protect it from the rain!

My father had an idea but it's a little ambarassing.
He said that if it starts raining we will cover the kit with one of those big nylon bags that are used for the cars. What do you think?

if it works, then go ahead. Just test it first with a garden hose. The kind i have wont really protect the car from the rain unless its just sprinkling .

Hmm... My car is constructed in such a way that rain does not damage it.

Why do people cover their cars in those blue sheets, like their paintwork is going to wash off. Even if it is a nice car, all that proves is that they are nobs for actually wanting to spend loads of money on a car that they will probablu never even take above 80 or 90 mph.
The only real use I can see is when storing it out in the open to stop birds ****ting on it.

that doesnt prove much except that they care about their cars. The sun damages the dashboard as well as the paint. the paint on my van is just starting to crackle on top. Maybe someday you will learn to appreciate things that you work hard to earn.

Haha  He's probably practiced it. I'll definitely break out improvised stuff everytime I practice. The last gig we played I improvised at least 10-20% of the time...
