I thought having it's own thread, might encourage a more active and detailed discussion of what you think of the new album.

Personally I'm loving it, it's really solid, and I think better than Speakerboxx/TLB.

What do y'all think?

I was quite impressed with it. Big Boi actually outshines Andre on a few tracks, and I say that as a huge Andre fan.

It's good to see that Big Boi can go from doing more "gangsta" stuff like Purple Ribbon All Stars, and then go back to more intelligent rap.

Some tracks are pretty solid, and a couple are really good, but as a whole I'm having trouble getting into it.

Good, but I don't like it better than SB/TLB. If you distilled the best stuff from the double album and put it on one disk, you'd have an album superior in every way to this one. But they didn't do that with those; they did with this one. I prefer it this way, the two side by side make one another sound so much better, even if they're not on the same track.

All that said, I do like the album. I definitely liked Big Boi's tracks better, he just has more consistent stuff in general. Andre seems like he's trying way too hard at times (see: "Makes No Sense At All") or has the right idea but can't shed the lame George Clinton/Prince gestures (see: "Chronomentrophobia"). As a singer, he's got the just about the worst falsetto ever. But I do like "Idlewild Blues," "Life Is Like a Musical," and "Dyin' to Live."

Career prediciton: They will not break up in the forseeable future. Although if they did, it might be to their benefit.

I really like the album. I personally think it's better than S/tlb overrall, but there are songs on the former that are better than any songs on Idlewild.

I'm really loving PJ and Rooster at the moment.

I love the songs with an oldschool 30s vibe.

I think it's better than SB/TLB

Man I saw something that really kind of annoyed me. Outkast were on 106 and Park on BET and the interviewer asked them who they liked right now, and they couldn't even really name anything. I think Big Boi said Little Wayne, Snoop Dogg, and Bubba Sparx and Andre couldn't even think of anything.

There's so much good hip hop out there!

it's BET what do you expect, if they mentioned people under the stairs or something the crowd or the hosts would be like huh? who's that? lol

I love the new album! I agree that Big Boi out shines Andre in this one, and I am an Andre fan. Overall the album is very solid, I love the 20's/30's feel. My favorite track right now is Morris Brown. Has anyone seen the movie yet? I can't wait to see what the guys are like on the big screen...

I'm listening to it now. It's alright. I don't know if I like it more than SB/TLB, but their very different. And to the BET comment above, if Andre said what he really liked and was into, BET would probably just be like "wtf?"

I got a few free downloads and was wondering if I should get it, looks like I should. I can't say I am big into hip hop but what I have heard off this cd is really good. I love the "Idlewild Blues" video. Maybe I should look into more rap, because I am digging these guys.

Idlewild was the first whole Outkast album I've heard. I liked it as much as the bits and peices of the other CDs I've heard. I still need to listen to it more though.

Morris Brown is such an single/not so awesome video.

All that I've heard is that new single. I'm not much of an Outkast fan, but I really enjoyed it. It had an acoustic-blues feel to it, something I really dig.

Which single? "Rosa Parks?" "So Fresh and So Clean?" "Bombs of Baghdad?" "Hey Ya!?" "Mrs. Jackson?" "The Way You Move?" etc. etc. etc.?

Or do you mean the new one/two, which is/are pretty much the best singles out there right now? Like every OutKast single. Most consistent singles of any band in the past decade of music.

Oh I was talking about Hey Ya. I wanted to murder them because of that song.

But thats like the catchiest of all Outkast singles! I didn't think there was a soul on earth who didn't at least have a small affection for that song.

I like the new album. I've never been able to fully get into Big Boi though, he just sounds a little too...basic.

Just got the new album. First impression... Its not as good or consistent as Speakerbox/Love below but there are still some outstanding moments. I'm diggin Idelwild Blue, Morris Brown and The Train.

I guess i havent given this album as much of a chance as I could, but from the first few times istening to it.. I was not impressed at all.

'Mighty O' seems a little to overbearing with how loud the Id de Id de Id O, is mixed. The drum n bass influnce stands out a little too much instead of having that clasic outkast burried style of mixing. Andres rapping still presents his classic metaphors cleverly put together which is the only thing I find intresting.

'Peaches' features Sleepy Brown, which was really hard for me to hear it as being him. The Too Short sample is oddly placed, and at times seems off. The drums once again are mixed way too powerful in comparsion to the seemingly smooth guitar rifts.

'Idlewild Blues' seems to have great potential, but I would've loved to have heard a all orignal sort of phrasing with the vocal patterns. What i mean by that is Dre based the vocals around the 'Steve Wonder' track "People". When Andre hits the harmonic note backing hisself on worry about me, he's off and shouldve just paid to hav had someone else do his harmonies.

I could go on and on, but I will say one positive thing about this album, they came back out with something semi-orignal in a time when everyone is promoting ignorance, hate, urban culture which is destroying black communities.
