What kind of ride did he use, like in "Let it be" or "Hey Jude" and "Come Together" I love that sound. Anyone know what type and brand he used, I mean I know it would be vintage and can not find it except maybe in a handmade cymbal. Anyone know?

i odnt know if it was that album but i heard it was the cymbals that came with his set. So they should be ludwig cymbals made by paiste

hmm I'm not sure, actually. I've been trying to get information on Ringo's gear for a long time, the one thing that I do know is that his set that he played on for most of the Beatles career was a Ludwig Super Classic in Black Pearl Oyster Wrap.

He played A Zildjians, I think. I know he played New Beats, thats for certain.

He had a fairly washy ride, I know that.

well, the reason why I know he played at least some As, was this brochure thing I saw at Guitar Center. It was an ad for their regular A pack (New Beats, Medium-Thin Crash, Medium Ride) and it listed all the classic drummers that used each cymbal. I know Ringo was listed for one, and I'm thinking it was for the New Beats.

I would have assumed paiste cymbals, but I geuss it could have been either that or Zildjian, judging by TormentorScott's post.

t is generally accepted that Ringo played Zildjian Cymbals. 14” hi-hats, 18” Medium thin crash, and an 18” or 20” ride. This is further evidenced by the fact that Don Bennett’s Drum Studio in Bellevue, Washington actually has Ringo’s “original” hi hat, and crash cymbals. We also know that Ringo plays Zildjians today. There is however evidence that exists that maybe Ringo didn’t always play Zildjians.

In Ringo’s expense reports from 1961 - 1963 there is an entry where Ringo purchased a set of Swiss made Paiste Cymbals. This entry is made about the same time that Ringo purchased his Ludwig kit. It would have been easier to obtain the Paiste Cymbals at that time. Ludwig distributed Paiste Cymbals. Also, with Ringo spending so much time in Germany and Sweden, it would have made the Paiste Cymbals much easier to obtain than the Zildjians. Expense records indicate that he purchased Paiste Cymbal, but Don Bennett has an original Zildjian 18” Medium Crash Cymbal with Paul’s inscription to Ringo!

when he appeared on the Ed Sullivan show Zildjian grabbed the opportunity to show off their cymbals, so they signed him up to use them, that is from what I know the first time Ringo used Zildjians. I got that from Zildjians magazine, haha!

There is a fantastic big coffeetable book that details The Beatle's gear throughout their career. I unfortunately have never had a chance to go over it in detail, but it should answer everybody's questions.

I have seen that Ed Sullivan bass head. As of 2001, it was in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.

As for the washiness of the ride....

his sound was washy earlier on in their career, with a lot of open hi-hats, crash riding, and riding crashes. As the Beatles progressed, his sound tightened up.

I bet it was a 20" Medium Ride.
