View Full Version : Comments on Soundoffs?

I'm a bit wary of adding these because I think there are two possible scenarios:

a) spammers attack, in the same way as lists, and trash newbies and other opinions
b) no comments, making people feel like no one is reading them

That being said, some of them deserve some response, and it feels weird to post a soundoff, and that be 'the final word'. Not sure about this one. Ideas?

Well I think comments would be a good idea for attracting users who only want to sound off, it gives a sense of community. The downside of this of course is it'll eventually get hard to keep track of all the comments on sound-offs since they don't appear on recent comments list, leaving users to harass and do drugs and what not. The solution for that would then be to make sound-off comments to also appear along with recent comments in reviews.

Well pulseczar is on the right track. But don't make the comments apart of the main comment page. Maybe a column next to "My Discussions" would be sufficiant.

This maybe a dumb idea, but maybe a rating system for soundoffs, similar to album ratings, to rate the soundoffs. That would make people feel like people are reading their soundoffs.

This. Well, I'm not worried about harassment, I just think it's one step too far.

Well, theres a recommend button, the sludge, so a rating system wouldn't really be needed.

^The recommended button isn't there anymore. Well, at least I don't see it.

Yeah, mx removed it as far as I know.
I asked about it a couple days ago, so he must have gotten rid of it.

In regards to this topic as a whole, you could do it two ways, I'd say:

1. Make sound-offs like lists (in the sense that you can click 'Add comment' or 'View comments'), but more ideally:

2. No comments in sound-offs. What would the point of them be? "Yeah good sound-off" or "You should expand this to a review" can only be typed so many times. It lacks a focus.

If possible, mx could bring back the 'Recommend' button (but call it something else) and have the most-recommended sound-off be the default (the first one at the top of the page).

So sound off's are basically going to be blurbs again? I thought the point of sound offs was more to give your opinion on the album, straight up, and that the reviews themselves would be the places to actually discuss those opinions amongst each other.

I dislike the idea of adding comments for this reason:

I disagree with adding comments to sound-offs. The main reason why I read and use the sound off feature is to get a quick idea of the album if I'm to lazy to read a full review, or I already have the album and am curious to see another users opinion. Like Jom said the comments would definitely lack focus.
