Im just currious, the price seems really low...is this one a quallity bass for Rock/Metal???

The thing looks shweet but I wanna know how it plays and sounds first,His parents know im the one with experiance so whatever one I tell them to get him they will,I dont want to recomened a peice of crap lol.

I have played one, it was pretty good, I like peavys better than a lot of other beginner basses, but i cant tell you enough about it to influence your decision. Happy Hunting!!

personally i would start off with a four string. no matter what people tell u four strings are easier then five (thats telling it to u straight). I dont play alot of "metal" but when u first start theres not too many things u will be playing that requires the B, (granted i dont play metal). If u need a lil bit more growl just tune drop D. In my band i dont find myself hitting the b string too often (that could be because im in a reggae / alternative band). But dont let this discourage u from stepping into the realm of 5 strings at the get go.

140 isn't alot to work with btw, i would go Behringer BX600. its alittle more expensive i belive but its 64 watts and worth it. I had a love / hate relationship with mine (somedays i loved it, somedays i didn't like it) but i think it was worth it in the end before u get the whole stack thing going.

Ah Okay thanks,I'll tell him to start saving on a good amp then lol.About the 5 String,Were both big fans of Three days grace and their style and whatnot, and their bassist uses a 5 string.Sooo hes pretty much dead set on getting a 5 string...I told him 4 would be easier but he likes challenges.

thanks for the help.

i started on a 5 string, im definitley not falling behind. four string is just as hard as five. may i ask why you are trying to get him to start on a 4 instead of a 5? there is nothing detrimental about starting on a 5

^^^Thanks, thats what i wanted to hear, someone who started on a 5.I dont think my buddie will have any problems,I mean he currently plays the guitar anyway,so he knows quite a bit about strings...im sure he'll be fine on a 5.

but back to my original question......Is that bass any good ?

A five string is not tougher to learn on than a 4 string or a 6 string. Strings are strings, not badges of merit.

Yeah, it's a good bass. It's built fairly well, has good tone, and good looks. It's a great beginner bass. I wouldn't buy one if I was playing bass for 10 years or something but it's a great beginner bass. I highly reccomend it.

save another 100 for an amp and checkout the "ibanez sound wave 65" I've had this amp for 5 years now, and it hasn't let me down yet. Well one time i was using it to push a cab, and i blew a fuse, but that was my own stupid fault and i replaced the fuse for 2 bucks.

This amp really emphasizes the natural tone of the bass. There is a 4 band eq for: bass, mids, treble, and presence. There is also a 10 db, cut/boost which does come in handy. It has a 12 inch speaker and a tweeter, and a line out for recording too.

Yeah, Gav's got it.

Personally, I love anything Peavy, and although I've never played that exact model, I've never heard terribble things about that model, or Peavy in general.

Great five string starter bass, the B wont be floppy because of the 34" scale.

another recomendation for the peavey. peavey generally makes good stuff. and if you want a five string, get a five string. personally, i think my fiver is easier than my 4 string.

I started out playing on a 4, and then joined a metal band and got sick of having to drop tune my four when i was playing with my band and then tune it back to standard when i wanted to slap and what not. so i deciede to get a fiver (and not have to deal with switching back and fourth) and i was seriously looking at this bass, but instead bought a ibanez sr405... but the bass look sexy as for tone and that business idk...

Cool guys thanks for the Info.....

mmm just one question,Either Im an idiot or im a complete noob at this whole 5 string bass thing.I was just thinking,3 songs we play right now are made originaly on a 5 string. The songs are all in drop c.......hmmm how would you go about tuning a 5 sting to drop c.I have seen the bassist(Three days grace) play the songs we do and he does em all pretty much on the 5th string.I thought the 5th was a low B??.....Do you have to tune up or what?Reason I asked is because I have broken a couple strings by tuning up on my guitar...just currious.

Man this stuff is confusing.....This is why I am a Drummer lol,I let him deal with those stringed things.

Thanks in advanced for the help.

Tuning a 5 string to Drop C is pretty easy, you just tune the B up a semitone.

This is a goood bass, a friend has the 5 string and my school has the 4 string version that's had the craap kicked out of it and it still works fine and sounds not to bad at all. I tihnk it's a good bet for rock/metal.

Really don't know what you'll get for the amp though, best save up for a good amp in my opinion
