i need help my low e string won't go in tune i've tried every possible way of tunning it by ear, reference tones and various tuners but for some reason it won't tune to E i can only make it tune to just below or above the note does anybody know whats wrong with it

You can tune with harmonics. The harmonic on the 5th fret of the E string is the same as the harmonic on the 7th fret on the A string.

maybe you tuned your string too short? I do that sometimes.
What i mean is you leave the string no slack when putting it on, but start turning and tuning once its pulled all the way. It used to make it harder for me to tune (used to , b/c I stopped tuning em that way)
Might be something else, tho. BUt just a thought

thanks for the help but i tried both of these i think it might be an internal problem it's the weirdest thing i've came across while playing it jus never tunes perfect its always slightly too low or slightly too high which as you probably would guess throws off everything i play using that string

if the intonation is way out of whack, the string could have a correct note at the 5th fret (where you tune it) and wrong open, or vice versa.

It sounds to me like maybe it's just sticking in the slot on the nut. Loosen the string and lift it out of the slot and use a pencil to put some graphite in the slot. Then it should slide more smoothly.

i think that graphite one may have worked i'm not too sure though as my ears are not that great any more suggestions would be great if anyone has any though i could use as much help as possible
How sharp or flat exactly is it?
Also, how many times is the string wrapped around the tuning post?

it's only wrapped around the post once and i can't tune it to a note not even sharpes and flats it's always just above or just below sorry for the lack of clarity it's hard to explain
edit: also i've tried it with different strings to no avail
