 hey all i havent posted much here, but ill cut down to the chase. Im looking at getting a new bass next month or a little bit after, birthday is coming up and parents thought it would be good for me to get a new bass. ive got some money saved and with my parents help i should have about $2500 AUD to spend on a new peice of wood with strings that sounds awsome. My style of playing is mainly metal and i often try to play a lot of dream theatre stuff as well as some funk and experimental, so im looking for a bass that can do most things. My choices so far are:
*Schecter Stiletto studio 6
*Music Man Sting Ray 5
*Lakland 55-02
*Warwick Corvette Double buck 5
*Warwick Corvette standard 5
*Cort Artisan 6
*Ibanez SR506

At the moment i have a Ibanez SDGR and im kind of use to the thin neck by now and fret spacing, but i figured if im getting 5 or 6 string it will take time to get use to it anyway. Any input would be great, likes pros or cons of particilar models. Also if any of the 5 string models labelled would take a high c well.

Thanks in Advance

All those 5-ers would take a high C no worries. It's just a question of whether you want to have the C and low B at the same time. Personally, I'd go for the 'Ray 5 cos I'm a sucker for that Stingray slap tone, or the Double Buck for its sheer tonal versatility.

If you want a 6 string I've heard nothing but good things about the SR506.

From that list of basses I would go the Lakland... but thats just me. Try to try them all and then make your decision.

You won't go wrong the the Warwick Corvette Double Buck 5er.

I have the 4 string version, and believe be the electronics package if fantasic and allows you a near limitless amount of tones.

That would be my choice.

Oh and on the neck front, you get used to the thicker warwick neck very quickly, and soon after, every other neck besides Warwick feels very thin and breakable.

thanks for the replys guys, unfortnately the Cort and Schecter are not at the bass centre so i can try them out. The bass Centre in Melbourne has got the rest of those basses, so i dont really wann take the risk of taking a blind stabe with a bass by ordering and buying before trying.
