Hip Hop/Rap Mailing List Pt. 2

i'm going to start this up again, but it will be done differently than the 1st, here's how it works:

1. You give us your email, so we can send you the password to the gmail account
2. Anybody who is already signed in on the gmail account can give a new requesting member who wants in, the password, it doesn't have to be solely up to me
3. You can request albums or upload albums at will whenever you feel like it to this account, request albums/indvidual songs in the thread, uploads ONLY in the account
4. THE ACCOUNT IS ONLY FOR UPLOADS
5. This is only for Hip Hop/Rap music
(foreign hip hop/rap is also alright)
6. Works kinda like a speakeasy :)

pretty simple...let's get it going, this is easier than the other mailing list because now you guys don't have to wait on me when i don't have the time, the success depends on each and every one of us, some days or weeks it may be slow other times it may pick up, who knows, it will definitely vary

i've already set up an email account, which is: hiphopmx at gmail dot com all you need to do now is state your email and request the password

as an example i already have an album uploaded into the account to kick things off...when links are dead or no longer available anyone with password access has the option of deleting it, again doesn't have to be up to me...any questions? feel free to ask, any suggestions feel free to mention, but keep in mind this is suppose to be as simple and painless as possible, if it isn't broke don't fix it, so keep that in mind when mentioning suggestions ;)

lol bleep...you upload the music to that email account via something like sendspace.com, megaupload, yousendit.com etc (if you want to share you're hip hop/rap music) if not, you take a look at the messages within the inbox, which are the actual albums and downloads...then there should be a link once the download is complete...then you download the link and voila! you got the album...

for example if you look in the account right now, niobium and i both have two albums in there:

Atmosphere - You Can't Imagine...
Peeping Tom...

click on the message/album you want, there should be a link, click on the link and it will prompt you to download it

m4a's is ok if that's the only format you have with a particular album, but please keep in mind that mp3 is a lot more universal and easier for everybody, not everyone can play m4a's, so try not to make a habit of it

At the top of the page there is a 3 letter code, enter it in the bar. There will be a countdown of 45 seconds, after that click the bar at the top of the page that says something along the lines of "Click to Downoad File."

Just find download using ctr+f, and yeah there you go ;).

I like it. You are absolutely right about the change in mood throughout the album. It starts off really light hearted and towards the end you have that song about Globalization.

You can't really say what the expiration dates will be, as a lot of hosts will delete a file after a period of inactivity.

For instance, megaupload can go the majority of the month with noone downloading the file, but once someone does it will reset that monthly counter before the file is deleted.

There are these big megaupload hubs, where blogs have links to albums of all pedigree and preference. Like there was this german one that had links to over 1000 albums, but they weren't megaupload, they were something that would last longer so they wouldn't expire so rapidly.

niobium: i'm not going to do that simply because it would be up to me yet again and i don't really want the responsibility of that and i also feel it's unnecessary, if an album is uploaded once and then someone comes around let's say in 2 months or so requesting the same album uploaded 2 months ago, i see no problem in repeating the process even though everyone else might have the album, because they can ignore it, however here's an alternative plan if you want to do this so bad...email the gmail account with all the things that have been uploaded and just edit it within the account, that way if people want to know what has been uploaded they just open that inbox you posted and voila! you can name it like Hip Hop/Rap Albums Upload History (or whatever) and just post away, i find that better than me having to re-edit my first post all the time, plus you have full control over something you suggested ;)

That Drapht album I uploaded is better than the Delta one. Some seriously slick beats on there.

There should actually be a separate song in that email as a bit of a taster, which I got from a Culture Of Kings compilation.

And I imagine your friends reactions were much the same as most Australian people who hear any Aussie Hip Hop. Most people were totally unfamilar with it until Hilltop Hoods release The Calling, or to be more specific, when The Nosebleed Section hit the airwaves. That being said, everthing else in the 'genre' is to be considered 'underground'.

Hilltop Hoods are my favorite from all the Aussie stuff I listened to. Most people who I showed it to said that the accent was too distracting, but personally I find it unique.

I can understand those people though, to a degree. I think it really just comes down to them being a bit closed minded. Would they say the same thing about someone like Jehst? Or do they take the time to realise that the rest of the world has to adjust to American accents?

Yeah, check out Ironman and Supreme Clientele first. Most people seem to like SC more, but I think Ironman is way better. Definitely more consistent. If you like those, get Fishscale. It dropped this year, and it's really good.

If you haven't checked out Raekwon and Masta Killa's solo stuff then do that too. Get Only Built 4 Cuban Linx and No Said Date, by Raekwon and Masta Killa respectively. If you're them, get the new Raekwon mixtape The DaVinci Code: The Vatican Mixtape 2 and Masta Killa's new CD Made In Brooklyn.
