I didn't like the big muff to much either. There are a lot of muffs which one did you play? And there are mods you can do to make it more bass oriented.

i've been thinking about doing one of those mods, but i can never find instructions on how to do it. i'm pretty sure its mostly just changing a capacitor or two, but i don't know which and what to replace it with.... :upset:
back on topic: playing style differences perhaps?

A better question would sound like this:
Why did you think you were going to be impressed by the big muff/

I should actually state a reason for my statement
Generally speaking, I'm big into achieving tone via EQ rather than modifying touch. I have my feel for the instrument and the rest of my tone is gear, and a pedal that is only tonally adjustable via a "sustain" and "level" knob doesn't realy strike my fancy.
The EHX English Muff'n is the **** though.

I played the Big Muff Pi against my Fulltone Bassdrive and i have to say the Fulltone kicked the Muffs ***

you lose all of your dry signal. I hate that. it doesn't matter what bass you're using when you're using the big muff, it makes them all sound like the same bass IMO. Why would you get a pedal that doesn't bring out the strong points in your tone? I've never been a fan of full blown distortion though.

can i ask what is meant by the lose of your dry signal?
and i was the person who atreyu_ben was talking about in his post

I do believe that Dry tone is the tone you have before you add the effect.
Someone correct me if im wrong.

You are right Maiden Fan. A lot of distortions allow a kind of mix of distorted tone and original tone for clarity while the muff just turns the whole sound into fuzz.

That's not a very good explination of why you were unimpressed
I was expecting some type of story, and all I get is "My mate played it and I didn't like it"
Heh, I wouldn't put it up there with my favourite pedals, but I liked it.

i have one and use it quiet often, its true it does fully distort your signal, but i use in a bi-amp setup and it sound pretty good imo. it takes some fiddling to get honed in on a good tone but once u find one its ON.

didn't the fulltone cost about 5x as much?
anyways, they're different pedals, of course they are going to sound different, just like amps and instruments do.

i quite like my big muff, i preffer my amp distortion though but my amp distortion is mint as ****. muffs can just sound very messy, especialy if you have a bassy sound or a realy big signal.

It cost me about $190USD including tax which isn't much more than english muff'n

well the big muff pi and english muff'n are COMPLETELY different and in that case muff'n > fulltone.
yeah, the first post this thread was really stupid.

Dry signal as in your tone without the effect. I like dist. pedals with a blend knob, so i can mix in my dry signal. I don't want to turn the effect on and lose that tone i've been tryhingto achieve for so long, but i want it to enhance my dry tone and work with that.

like $60? do you consider that expensive for a pedal?

my di/distortion pedal cost 150. A lot of pedals that cost 60-70 are kind of unimpressive(not all of them). I'm into boutique pedals though.
